Some sad news, Damian is recovering in hospital after a very bad accident on his motorbike.
A few die hard fans may well remember this name from the early 1980's. He actually only played three times for us at the end of the season but had been in our youth team and reserves before that. He then moved on to play for Teignmouth and a couple more local clubs before injury foced his retirement.
He came from Manchester originally and stayed here after finishing his football and eventually becoming a graphic designer. That is how I know of him as he worked at Suttons Seeds for a few years before moving on and now I believe has his own firm. My sister worked with him recently so thats how I have heard what he has been up to.
A few weeks ago he was on his way to the gym on his bike and a taxi driver (Polish) changed direction at the last minute and they collided head on. Damian went on the bonnet before smacking the windscreen and rolling off. He has suffered badly down his left side with a broken ankle, pelvic injuries, broken fingers and plenty of other injuries. He was taken to Torquay but soon moved to derriford where he underwent a few ops to sort him out. After a couple of weeks he was moved back to Torbay where he currently is and had over a dozen small ops. They do have him up walking with a special frame and oddly enough no injuries to his face. He did say to my sister that the pain of his ankle going the wrong was was the worst he had ever had an wished he had passed out. He will be going home very soon and is a lucky boy, the specialist said that his back pack and towel saved his back serious injuries too. It will take about 6 months for everything to heal but maybe longer mentally.
When my sister sees him again I will pass on any messages that you may want to give if you did know Damian.
