italy, have a history of winning the world cup and euros after match fixing revelations,i can see them pulling it off again. As far as we are concerned i will be very surprised if we survive the group stages.Ferdinand isnt helping our cause either, moaning about his squad exclusion,he should bite the bullet and back the chosen squad, but doesnt appear to be doing that. We have a poor squad led by a manager who fits in nicely with the england heirarchy ideals, pleasant,a yes man who can be controlled and wont rock the boat, which only means failure i am afraid

You can't really look past Spain, probably beating Germany in the final again. Spain will obviously be up there because of their skill and past success and despite some poor results in pre tournament friendlies (5-3 defeat against Switzerland) Germany always come good in major tournaments and have some good young players in Kroos, Muller, Ozil and co, so should be up there aswell.
England are in a transitional phase and have had injuries and also their best player out of action for the first two matches so I wouldn't look past the Quarters or maybe Semis if we're incredibly lucky. If we had Redknapp something may have been possible because of his man management skills and ability to get something out of average players but Hodgson isn't that man. Italy aren't what they used to be and France although on a looong unbeaten run and looking good under Blanc are still unproven in major tournaments with their youthful team and Holland are always outsiders for a good run but this isn't their best team.
The rest of the countries don't have much of a chance, I'm not expecting a repeat of Greece '04 or Denmark '92 here, those kind of things don't happen very often.

I think Germany. They've got a great squad and if you look at their possible route to the final, they get the runner-up/winner of Group A which could be Russia, Poland, Czech Republic or Greece. I think they've got a real chance, even ahead of Spain dare I say it. It's not like I want them to win but I think if they do, they can go on to win several tournaments to come

Have a bit of a gut feeling for England. For once we are under no pressure and I fancy a few of our younger players may well take their opportunity.
We are not in the situation of not knowing where to play people.
I may well be proved wrong.

Nobody seems to be answering the actual question posed by the thread title. For Euro Cop it has to be between Van der Valk, Bergerac, Maigret, or Poirot

I have chosen Russia as a wild card. Watched them stuff Italy 0-3 last week and they really impressed me with there play and technical ability. They sure looked better than England who looked like they had adopted Lingys tactics in the friendlies soaking up pressure and hurting he opposition with as single goal win. Roy and Martin seem to think alike and have to best utilise what they have at their disposal. Our only advantage is that nobody rates or expects much from us the exact same scenario as we entered last season and looked how we surprised a few. Truth is ability and world class quality players of which we only have a couple, should see Spain Germany or the Netherlands win through although I suspect Spain may have peeked and maybe on a downturn.

Well my missus is convinced it will be Germany but there again she says that to every European or World Cup. I am hoping that an "unfancied" Englang team will rise to the occasion and surprise everybody (even themselves)!

Latest odds (current best prices):Spain - 14/5 Germany - 33/10 Netherlands - 7 France - 11 England - 14 Italy - 16 Portugal - 20 Russia - 22 France seems the pick of the bunch for me atm (i.e. pre- training camp bust up ).

Germany could field 2 sides that are better than England's at the moment. The youngsters just keep rolling off the production line. I'd have to put them ahead of Spain because with Villa out, I can't see where the goals are going to come from, and their preparation for the tournament has been poor - the Barcelona players have only just joined up with the rest of the squad
Realistically I'd say the likely winner will come from the top 4 in those odds. England have a chance, but it would need Greek levels of resolve and luck to get it
