So the last game of pre-season and with Ling publically saying that he hasn't decided on his starting XI yet, a last chance for the players to stake a claim. Billy will only get half an hour due to international commitments and I suspect Manse and Oastler will have limited or no involvement due to getting 90 minutes under their belts on Tuesday. Halpin, Craig and Cruise may be doubtful starters due to injury. With some good performances from the younger players, hopefully we can get one final morale boosting win whatever the side before the proper stuff starts.

Ok here goes a 3-0 win for the Gulls over the Seagulls. Flattering for us I would say. Not gonna do an epic report as actually the performance wasnt that good. If thats the level we can expect then mid table mediocrity here we come.
First half was fairly drab, WSM started brightly and posed a few problems, one excellent tip over from Ricey and we seemed off the pace and not up for a tackle. Slowly we got back into it with some good passing. Would say the two centre backs Saah and Downes look assured and strong and Downes is a real talker. Jarvis as target man didnt work, and seemed that Mansell was the link betwen midfield and attack !!
Lucky to go in at half time one up, it was a penalty though and nicely despatched by Manse. Plaudits in taht first half to Rice, Saah, Downes and Nicho. Second half was much brighter probably as a result of the substitutions, and the tiring of the WSM team. Much more control and physicality from the Gulls. Two second half goals from Bodin, a ta in after gd work by Rene then the third a delightful trip from Rene.
My thoughts on the guys:
Rice - solid, and not really tested, Leadbitter - not confident and shy of a tackle Nicho - usual Nicho solid game Saah - Classy Downes - strong and the organiser Lathrope - got better as game went on strong in the tackle Mansell - slightly lost in the forward role but okay Easton - good distribution and vision Morris - an enigma, very poor 1st half scared to fight forthe ball. Better 2nd half when central BUT still disappointing Jarvis - Huffs and puffs but not a goalscorer Thompson - quick but not willing to take his man on
Subs
Oastler - good and decisive McKenzie - impressed for a young lad, quite powerful Foote (Trialist) - Big but prone to errors Artemi - Nope sorry not good enough Bodin - cameo but bags of talent Yeoman - ran around a lot !!! Cruise - good left foot but not a midfield player
Think thats about and be interesting to see the XI for Fleetwood !!

Thanks for your report bobbytanz, you can never read to much into these sorts of games and it is often the case we play poorly against lower opposition.
I'm sure when we get down to the real business, our lads will do well and Martin Ling will have a winning team. Will we do as well as last season? some may feel missing out at the end of the season as we did meant we had a poor season, but we were there near the top and that has to be a good thing for such a small club.
We may not reach those heights again this season, but I'm sure every effort will be made to try and win promotion this season. I still feel it would be so fitting to see first division football played at Plainmoor now the new stand is finished.
