Not a huge distance from where my grandmother was brought up (which may wake my dad up out of his slumber), though that's more NW Sheffield (High Bradfield) - still very much the same type of scenery Perhaps this will wake Stuart from his slumbers. Pictures taken at Bradfield cricket ground (down the hill) and near the church at High Bradfield. PM your email address, Stuart, if you want more shots of the area. wow you are a gem. Mum will love to see some pics of "home". PM on its way

Enough of this Sheffield nonsense! This is a Devon & Derbyshire thread, and to bring everyone back on message here is an easy quiz: Name the TUFC (and, for Barton Downs, Workington) connections in this photo, please...

Enough of this Sheffield nonsense! This is a Devon & Derbyshire thread.... ....but I'm sure there's still time for this map showing the former demarcation line between Sheffield and Derbyshire. It's from the Philips' Handy County Atlas of the British Isles which I picked up years ago in the Piece Hall in Halifax on my way to a game. I'm guessing it dates from around 1900:

Those Yorkshire imperialists nabbed the whole of the Dore and Totley area sometime after 1900 then. I see a Norton & Woodseats Liberation Movement coming on. Give us our land back, you buggers!!

Paul Holmes' dad must be in there somewhere. Is that a young Neil Warnock?

No Warnock here, Jon. He had left on a free transfer by the time this picture was taken.. Paul Holmes's dad is on one end of the back row and Martin Wright is at the other. Back row. Albert Holmes, John Lumsden (Workington), Tom Fenoughty (of Journey to Wembley fame), Ernie Moss (all time record goalscorer), Alan Stevenson (a zillion games for Burnley), Charlie Bell (Blades reject), Martin Wright.Front: Tony Moore (terrace scapegoat), Kevin Randall (one of CFC's most skilful players and later manager), Geoff Martin (Workington & Grimsby), David Pugh (Welsh under 23 international), Albert Phelan (later Halifax's manager). Now them were t' days, lad, when footballers had names like Ernie, Albert and Charlie. Not a Jordan or a Eunan in sight! Here's another picture taken 12 years later. One of the same players is in it and there is another TUFC connection. Over to you.....

Here's someone we forgot: Smashing little Brummie goalscorer signed by Roy McFarland for Chesterfield from Torquay for a reported £175,000 in 2007, and still popping them in for Derby nowadays.

Thanks to Wildebeeste for that picture of a clearly triumphant Chesterfield team. What a fine goalscorer Ernie Moss was, and you couldn't help but be aware of his goalscoring exploits even if you were living in the south west. That must be 'Agent' Wilson (2nd from right ,back row) giving us the thumbs up, and who is currently doing such a fine job in ensuring that 'The Blunts' remain in League 1. Sticking with a red & white striped theme, I'd guess those are the distinctive features of Geoff Salmons (front row,far right). I'm looking forward to learning what the TUFC connection is.

No Warnock here, Jon. He had left on a free transfer by the time this picture was taken.. Paul Holmes's dad is on one end of the back row and Martin Wright, who failed to settle at Torquay despite the attractions of Meadfoot and Babbacombe, is at the other. Back row. Albert Holmes, John Lumsden (Workington), Tom Fenoughty (of Journey to Wembley fame), Ernie Moss (all time record goalscorer), Alan Stevenson (a zillion games for Burnley), Charlie Bell (Blades reject), Martin Wright.Front: Tony Moore (terrace scapegoat), Kevin Randall (one of CFC's most skilful players and later manager), Geoff Martin (Workington & Grimsby), David Pugh (Welsh under 23 international), Albert Phelan (later Halifax's manager). Well done, guys. You are both right and the occasion was Chesterfield's 3-0 trouncing of Glasgow Rangers in the Anglo-Scottish Cup, on a night where Rangers were lucky to get nil and the Gers hordes sang "What a load of rubbish" as well as a lot of stuff about hating (a) Celtic and (b) English bastards.
Back row: Ernie Moss, Phil Walker, Bill Green, John Ridley, Gary Pollard, Colin Tartt (that's three fingers he is holding up), Danny Wilson, John Turner
Front row: Les Hunter, Alan Crawford, Alan Birch, Phil Bonnyman, Geoff Salmons.
What a team that was! Unfortunately, it was put together with money the club didn't have and was broken up the following season. Two years later CFC were relegated and totally skint.

OK. Three minutes of lunch break left to think of as many players/managers as I can who worked for League teams in the two loveliest counties in England The two loveliest counties in England? That's a reasonable shout. These pictures were taken in Derbyshire even though I believe the hill within the frame is actually within Sheffield's boundaries. It's a walk from the Fox House Inn along the edges to Baslow where I bought a newspaper and caught up with the latest news. I'm becoming absorbed by this. I must remember to travel across Derbyshire tomorrow in the general direction of The Potteries. Return to Longport please......
