Travel to the game by train with a cheap ticket. Not an expensive one, then? How simple marketing was in those days. An advert on the front page? How commercial. Good to see that Wisden were “outfitters to the Albion”. Is that anything to do with John Wisden, he of the cricketers’ almanack, who ended up running a cricket and cigar shop in London? Glad too that the visit of Torquay assures us of a “good, clean and sporty match”. Were we regarded as a soft touch? Or did they say that every week along the lines of the oft-repeated “ We welcome the players, officials and supporters of Gobshite Athletic to the Shit Heap this afternoon. We hope they enjoy their brief stay with us and have a safe journey home”.Millie’s transport cafe in Hove? Sounds something of a contradiction to me. But, safe to say, just the place for the drivers of the nationalised British Road Services:

And what could be a better after-match treat than to be personally fitted with a Brooks Rupture Appliance?
