Some very good and valued TFF members told me before the start of the match why they have stopped posting on here. It’s mainly because this forum has become the home of negativity, constant moaning and not doing what fans are meant to be doing and that is supporting the club. Every single fan at tonight’s game knows what supporting is all about, knows just how much this all means to them and I’ll you what, our players showed each and everyone of us what it means to them tonight.
This is a supporters forum, lets start showing we know the meaning of the word support and if we can do that, then maybe just maybe we can lose all this doom and gloom, stop looking who we can blame and do our part to try and hold onto our league status.
Being inside Plainmoor this evening is what football is all about, real passion, fantastic support from all the fans and a group of players so proud to be wearing their Torquay United shirts a group of players who had only one thing on their minds and that was to win the match and claim the three points.
It’s been a long time since I have felt Plainmoor rocking the way it did tonight, a long time since I have seen such a hard working and battling display by a Torquay United side, no matter what happens I will always remember tonight’s match and feel proud of the players and the club.
As I have been up since 5 am I’m too worn out to write about the match, I will do that tomorrow, all I’m going to ask is we all try to be far more positive and keep the faith.

Totally agree with you Dave. I am a natural glass-half-full person and find I difficult to comprehend "supporters"who are negative all the time. Terrific commitment and effort tonight and well deserved win.

Wow, what a great night at Plainmoor with the crowd fully behind the team to get a deserved win despite the ref and popside lino threatening to make a hash of things. I thought we had the better of the first half with a number of half chances and Benyon seemed to be in the right place for once, shooting from distance when their keeper, Stack was out of position and getting into the area for a pass from Bodin but unable to get his shot off first time. However, from a Nico free kick Saah was able to head a deep cross back across goal straight to Benyon and this time made no mistake to thump the ball back into the top corner to the delight of the home crowd. Barnet did threaten briefly and Poke did well in a goal mouth scramble. Barnet started well in the second half and in one attack appealed for hand ball in the area before Oastler just squeezed the loose ball out for a corner with the goal gaping. However, after an entertaining start to the half, we saw four goals in a very hectic twenty minutes. First, it was Barnet who equalised. A free kick, harshly given in the same positon as Nico's was curled over the line of Players on the edge of the area to bounce near the spot and Hyde was the sole player to move forward and nod in past Poke. It looked offside and would have needed superb split second timing but he was hardly motoring to head in - surely went too early? Poke seemed somewhat rooted to the spot and although had a good game, maybe could have come off his line quicker to punch clear? With the indignation of the players and crowd still echoing around Plainmoor, united put together the best move of the match, winning the ball deep in the Barnet half and Rene cleverly put Bodin through on the left and his shot just had enough power to beat Stack into the far corner! Shortly after, we were able to win a corner which Mansell took and Saah was again able to get on the end of a deep cross and his header looped back across Stack to squeeze into the far corner to the esctasy of Brian and the home fans!!!! However, the prospect of a confident and relaxing finish to the night diminished with Barnet able to get the ball out wide and after pinging around for a bit, Hyde was able to force home from a tight angle. In between all this Oastler was very harshly booked when he was pushed as a long ball came in and as it came out to David, he was off balance and just clipped his foot and he went down as if shot. So, ten minutes left with which to hold out with the crowd acting as the twelveth man! Somehow the official found five minutes of extra time despite no injuries, just five substitutions? ? Nevertheless, we held out to the delight of a decent mid week crowd!!!! Downes was MotM and put in a good shift but Saah edged it for me but the whole team were able to step up and play to a standard only intermittently reached this season.

We played OK. A few mistakes here and there but we were by far the better side and deserved to win
Barnet, on the other hand, were a risible disgrace. For a start, they generally played pretty badly - Edgar Davids and John Oster have over 80 international caps between them and yet barely completed a pass all night, and that's before you get to the rest of them. Graham Stack looked so slow when making saves he seemed as if he needed to be cranked up. Also I'm not sure what the game plan actually was - they seemed to be hoofing it but had no natural target. They only got luck (as has been the case with most teams that we've played this year) by getting in behind us, particularly behind Nicholson (he might have created our first goal tonight but he was still a liability defensively as per usual). Davids was seemingly playing in a free role, sometimes on the left, sometimes up front, sometimes at the back - he was shit everywhere, though
But the attitude and gamesmanship they displayed was even worse. It was like watching a really bad Steve Evans team, perhaps comparable to Boston's 2006-07 side - players and coaches were constantly in the faces of the officials, protesting everything; players regularly threw themselves on the floor looking for fouls; and they were niggly back too, with lots of shoves that the referee simply didn't penalise. There were lots of mysteriously poor decisions, several of them blatant - I'm not normally one to complain about that but it's probably not a coincidence that these came in the same match that one of the teams was trying to intimidate the officials
Davids was the focal point for all the criticism from our fans but the rest of the players were all up to it as well, although he was clearly acting as an example for the rest to follow. But this is nothing new - he has always done this, so I'm not surprised. I doubt he'll last as manager there if they get relegated. And I hope they go down now. Barnet FC deserves better than this bunch of thugs

In the second half he just seemed to play wherever he fancied and to no benefit to his team. I thought we played well. Pressed up and sufficiently in their face in the opening encounters to set out our stall and let what appeared a more technically gifted set of Barnet players know they weren't going to have enough time on the ball if we could bloody help it. All three goals were an absolute delight tonight. Saah my MOTM, but Downes official MOTM also had a very good game.

One of the best performances commitment and energy wise I have witnessed from a Torquay Utd side in recent years. They gave everything for the whole ninety five minutes and each and every player put in the kind of performance we have all been crying out for for so long. The tactic of pressing high up the pitch and hard onto the Barnet back line needed an awful lot of energy and one or two were blowing a bit near the end and wondered if it could cost us when we ran out of steam. Downes and Saah were magnificent and the pick but all who donned the shirt did what was expected. The table looks better but we are still not out of the woods yet. At five o'clock on Saturday we will know exactly what is required in our last fixture I pray it wont be riding on the Rovers match but I reckon that will be the case.
As for Daves opening statement about forum members not posting because of the negativity well if they cant be bothered to post they surely have no opinion or anything of value to say so not missed by me. Why ever do they read this forum if it upsets them so and then are not prepared to argue their own viewpoint? Anyone who takes the time to post on here, good or bad has my respect it shows that they care about the club we all support. I have rarely seen a derogatory or insulting remark aimed at anyone on here.
In one of the worst seasons of management incompetence we have all witnessed some very odd decision making that could still cost us our league status isn't it just a little understandable that there will be some negativity? With the greatest respect I want a forum with strong opinions not some rose tinted censored crap.

I've pressed that little hand thingy on the top of the page...is that it? The forum is about people being able to post their own opinions Pete good or bad, if members can’t do that then what is the point of having a forum in the first place. I will be honest and say I got rather angry before the game with what was being said to me, what do people want a forum that allows opinions, or one that sensors them. My argument back was plain and simple, you can always make a positive post or correct what you might think others have got wrong, that way at least we do get mixed views that will go some way to balancing out what might be seen as negativity. The replay I got back was I do not want to get into fights and fall out with people, really? well this is meant to be a forum for adults where people can debate in a sensible way with out the need for any personal abuse. The problem is there are people who like to think they are the ones who are only right, never wanting to accept that others might see things differently. I happen to agree that if you don’t like reading the views on the TFF by its members that do make an effort and contribute to the forum, then the best answer is not to visit this site in the first place. The very people, who want this forum to remain open for everyone to read, are the ones now moaning the most about the TFF. So from now on we will be going back to be a members only forum as that way we can express our views freely and those who do not like them won’t have to read them unless they want by way of having to log into the forum. Last night was a great advert for second division football, a great game and a joy to be a part of it, but it was only one game and most I have watched this season have been very poor indeed. We should never be afraid to air our views if what we were served up was rubbish, as long as we are prepared to give praise when its due. What a shame we have not seen that level of effort, that desire to win for most of this season, had we done, then we might all still be the best of friends on here. For consistency, it ought to be an open forum if anti-censorship is being championed, I would've thought. Can't see why you are suggesting otherwise, Dave. 'Coz those very same people wanting it open aren't happy the forum is negative' seems a bit of an odd reaction. For example, it's nice to know anyone can happen across the History section on this site. Your site to do as you please, I guess.

Back to last night. It was my first try at Bristow's Bench. What a cracking stand and views. Am Pop side at heart, but my 100% Bench seat:Gulls win ratio probably means I'll go on the Bench again before returning to the Pop Side. Good to see some player reaction on the OS. Lathrope and Saah were superb. Some numbers to follow:-
Poke 8 Oastler 7 Saah 9.5 Downes 9 Nicholson 7 Jarvis 8 Mansell 8 Lathrope 9 Bodin 7.5 Benyon 7.5 Howe 8

Great result, well done Gulls and those who supported....(and continue to support) Re the forum, my vote would be to keep it open. There have been some excellent new posters this season.....would a closed forum encourage new posters? Positive and negative messages are fine, but constant "taking the pxxx out of the club can be wearing......... How about a vote? Closed or open......?

I think closing this forum would be a massive over -reaction mainly for the previous points raised in respect of the history room, getting new posters and also to keep in the main stream and not become insular. As for the wider tone of the forum, when the club does well certain posters stop or limit their posts and the reverse can happen so that the written views may not always reflect the wider reader / lurker and this could potentially discourage debate which is bad for any forum.
I'm sure that there will be a lot of subsequent debate about this season and the reasons we find ourselves where we are and will be interesting if the immediate viewpoint we have expressed on here holds out, possibly being somewhat dependant on what happens come 27th April! In summary, losing Eunan was a big blow although we were able to challenge for the play offs up to Christmas with a lot of decent matches at Plainmoor (despite the pitch!) before slipping down to midtable towards the end of the year due to a flurry of conceding late goals. I think most would have been happy with midtable after all the ups and downs we have had recently or maybe forever but nobody would have predicted Ling becoming ill and the sudden impact this had on our fortunes sending us into a relegation dogfight although so far we only have had three days in the dreaded drop zone but overall this sudden turnaround in events can only hurt any follower of the club who can only react perhaps on these new fangled internet forums or not as the case may be.....
