A disaster - now we have hope...
In all seriousness, that was quite important. Now to Newport, who aren't out of this. 14th but only 4 points above Exeter. It's ridiculously tight in that bottom half, as far as 22nd
Just going over the stats - the difference between our home and away form is starting to widen. We now have 27 points from our last 23 home games (6 wins, 9 draws and 8 defeats), but only 21 from our last 23 away games (6 wins, 3 draws and 14 defeats). These back-to-back home wins came after a run of 7 games at Plainmoor without a win. Perhaps things are changing
50 points from the last 46 now. Not so bad...

First one back home then?
Good battling performance tonight. Bury were pretty poor to be honest, probably one of the worst teams this season. Not that that takes anything away from the result though. Ladabie now missing so Manse returned to midfield and Benners and Enoch up front. Cameron picked up an (hamstring?) injury in the first half with Danny starting the second half.
Really not too sure what Stockley brings to the party. I can only assume Enoch must have picked up a knock and Benners started to run out of steam, probably from having the flu. Yeoman didnt get much in the way of any ball getting dispossessed rather easily but popped up in the right place at the right time to grab the winner. The defence were pretty solid, though Downes edged it ahead of Pearce for me. Their goal looked like a ball through the gap between Pearce and Tonge and a tidy finish. Our first was a nicely worked move with a cross from Tonge and a nicely taken header from Manse. We had quite a few nice passing moves down the sides and Benners was always chasing down the opposition defenders, and the keeper who looked well dodgy.
Could be a valuable 3 points....

I had all but given up on us making a fist of the run in but it was very clear tonight that we will indeed be throwing the kitchen sink at it which is comforting for us weary supporters. Have to take my hat off to the loan players, in particular Enoch Showumni and Shamir Goodwin both are giving everything in effort, are 100% committed and have added something that has given us a lift. Work rate and commitment were tremendous tonight from every player. Even if we had come away with nothing I would still be singing the praises of the way we set about things tonight. The early goal gave a us a lift and some belief which helped and the supporters that were their responded and got behind the players even when a pass went astray or a mistake was made. Benners ran his nuts off for the cause chasing down all the lost causes and Bury were visibly rattled at times a tactic that was to pay huge dividends at the death. When they equalised you couldn't help thinking "here we go again" and in all honesty Bury themselves could have won it after we committed to win the game and left a few gaps. But no tonight was our night we played with the tempo, enthusiasm and a will to get a result for the entire ninety minutes. The changes made, one enforced Danny for Courtney Cameron, and Stockley and Yeoman for Enoch and Benners had me thinking that the game was up but all played an important part in maintaining a tempo and applying pressure on defenders. Full marks to Danny Stevens who continued what Cameron had started and played inteligently and at times took defenders on in the box which is always good to see. The back line again totally committed and in the main dominated their forwards. Labadie, I am pleased to say wasn't missed Mans having one of his best games of the season and notching a good headed goal that set us on our way, Damon going about his business making himself available for a pass and putting his foot in when it mattered most. Great result and performance, not perfect of course, but so much better than so many wasted opportunities that I have witnessed week after week. Well done to the players and to Greavsy, just keep it going the gap is closing again.

We played welli the first half with high tempo football? C.h and L.h have certainly fired the players up. A really well worked its goal with DaleTonge putting a beautiful cross into the box and Manse scoring a good header from close range. Courtney Cameron was having a great game and it was a shame he didn't come out for the second half, being replaced by Danny Stevens. Our tempo at the start of the second half had slowed considerably and one slip and Platt was in for the equaliser for Bury. We were badly missing Cameron's pace on the wing. Danny did ok but just lacks the pace to get behind the full back and constantly has to cut back inside wich loses all momentum. Once again Downsey was immense at the back ably assisted by Pearce. Our main attacks in the second half usually came down the right from Shamir Goodwin, who once again played well. Elliot Benyon once again ran his socks off but never really achieved much. I thought the subs were made at the right time by C.h. I main be in the minority but like Jayden Stockley, a real physical presence, wins a lot of Arial balls. The winner came from Stockley getting his head on a ball in the area and ran nicely for Ashley Yeoman to slot home the winner to the cheers of the delirious home fans. We are still big odds on to go down, but a win on Saturday v Newport and then it gets very interesting.

Well, who'd a thought it, Ashley Yeoman actually scoring a goal...well I would. We've played Hawley (and others) in endless games with out a chance of him (them)scoring! I think we would be safe and well, and looking forward to another season in the Football League if Yeoman had been given a run in the side! So here we are CH, carry on playing the same old no-hopers or put someone in the team that can actually find the back of the net. If any of our other so-called strikers had hit that ball last night I wonder where it would have ended up...scuffed wide, straight at the keeper or over the family stand! If you don't put Yeoman in the side on Saturday, (even 45 minutes) you might as well take little DS and open up a little road side caff in that little pull-in just south of the Black-Cat roundabout on the A1. There you can sell Salmonella sandwiches and reminisce about the old days in the conference...

Just seen the highlights, and for those of you that were there last night, when Mansell scored (bit of an oxymoron there) he seemed to shun our number 25, which i'm guessing was showy (who seemed to give Mansell a bit of a dirty look)...so what was all that about I wonder!

The difference being Reg, the chances for our goals were created in danger areas with players anticipating that chance. Creating clear opportunities is not something that we've really done this season. No way to say for certain but I suspect Hawley/Benners/Enoch/Marquis etc would have put both chances away. If we're not going to create many clear cut chances, we're not giving the finishers much chance. You seem to forget Hawley averaged a goal every three games last season in a struggling side the division above. Whilst Yeoman did indeed score, to be honest he didnt exactly get much joy otherwise, being dispossessed every other time he had the ball. He looks a much better bet coming off the bench to me...

Of course i'ts all speculation who would score and who wouldn't, i'm just pleased that Yeoman did score. As you say, he was dispossessed a lot of the time, but for me , a real striker doesn't have to be that brilliant, he just has to have that gut instinct of where to be at the right time...and I believe Yeoman has that instinct! Whether he gets to start a game is in the hands of the gaffer, if he comes on for the last twenty minutes or so and scores it's fine by me. That red headed guy who used to play for the scousers that was all he seemed to do and was he bloody good at it!

Are you saying Ashley could be our very own David Fairclough register?!??

If he can't get a starting place then a "Super Sub" he will have to be!
At the moment we have "Jesus" who is struggling to save us, but one of his disciples might just be the answer!
{I spent all night trying to think what the scouse strikers bloody name was! Still, it stopped me doing what I normally do at night ...where's my glasses!}

Didnt we have our own version of supersub? Was it Kev Lane back in the 70's?

You're asking a bit there Ditmar! My brain is so pickled I have no chance of remembering that, particularly if it was the late 70's as I wasn't even in the country. I'm sure one of the clever clogs on here will know!

I'm sure one of the clever clogs on here will know! I'm sure one of those clever clogs will appear in due course. In the meantime I'd suggest Kevin Lane's reputation was almost entirely based around a 1975 League Cup tie against Swansea City when he came off the bench to score twice. Not really sure what happened to him after that but it made for a hell of a night at Plainmoor. I guess his overall story has a striking similarity to that of David Byng nearly twenty years afterwards.
