Put simply, Scunthorpe are difficult to beat. They haven't lost in League Two since November 2nd and are on a 24-match unbeaten run, with 3 of the last 4 being wins. They currently sit 2nd, 2 points behind Rochdale, and 7 points clear of 4th-placed Fleetwood. Manager Russ Wilcox has broken a 125-year old record for the most matches unbeaten as a manager from the start of their tenure, having taken over from Brian Laws at the start of the run: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26825399Line-up vs Wycombe: Gk Sam Slocombe Def David Mirfin Def Niall Canavan Def Eddie Nolan Def Marcus Williams Mid Sean McAllister Mid Terry Hawkridge Mid Dave Syers Mid Gary McSheffrey For Paddy Madden For Sam Winnall Subs: James Severn (Gk), Christian Ribeiro (Def), Matt Sparrow (Mid), Luke Waterfall (Mid), Hakeeb Adelakun (For), James Alabi (For), Paul Hayes (For) Head-to-head: Scunthorpe wins: 30 Torquay wins: 16 Draws: 17 Last match: Scunthorpe 3-1 Torquay (Winnall 6; OG O'Connor 30; Adelakun 61; Marquis 78), League Two, November 2013 Last match at Plainmoor: Torquay 1-0 Scunthorpe (Hockley 13), Division Three, February 2004 Last Scunthorpe win at Plainmoor: Torquay 0-2 Scunthorpe (Sparrow 12, 34), Division Three, March 2001 And who can forget Scunthorpe's famous 8-1 win at Plainmoor in October 1995, which led to the sacking of Don O'Riordon? Amongst the goal-scorers that day was one Alan Knill...

So, on average, they are due a loss?

It would be typical of us to lose to a side that hadn't won in ages in one home game and then beat a side that hadn't lost in ages in the next one

Well, here we go then. According to a couple of us we will not be relegated this season, but of course time is running out! Amazingly enough, even if we do lose to Scunthorpe we can still beat the drop...if other results go our way! I'm off on my travels again tomorrow so will be away for the next two weekends, by which time our fate may or may not have been sealed. Hopefully, when I post again on my return (I know that someone on this forum thinks that my return will be akin to someone having sex with their mothers sister) we will still have a fighting chance...we'll see!

I was at that game and remember Scott Partridge scoring our goal but did we score first ? Also a tedious link but been listening to a couple of Cranberries albums recently and wondered just what the connection was between the singer Dolores O Riordan and our manager at the time Don o Riordan, is it his daughter or neice perhaps ?

I'm not aware of any connection between them. O'Riordan is a fairly common surname in Ireland. Don is from Dublin and Dolores from Limerick. I could be wrong though and perhaps, with extended families, there is a link somewhere. Don O'Riordan's brother still runs Cherry Orchard FC however.

Im probably wrong but i vaguely remember reading somewhere that she was his neice. Changing the subject completely have i read somewhere that the pop side was named because there was a line of poplar trees behind the grass bank before the cover was built in the early fifties ? Can anyone enlighten me ?

I have some very old pictures I have with hats worn in the Grandstand and flat caps on the Pop. I don't recall a row of trees and think these photos were taken in the late 1920's, first TUFC home match. Been a long while since I got those photos out, though. Referee's outfit is smashing. Just some rope separating the Pop from the pitch and housing in Marnham Road behind, as I recall.
