Despite a rare win on Saturday, we still go into this Good Friday match pretty much dead and buried but I intend to savour our remaining matches in the football league. Only two wins this weekend and results going our way elsewhere would give us just a glimmer of hope and resurrect our chances but relegation is more than likely to be confirmed, just hopefully not at Exeter!!!!!!
Actually, it is probably a good time to play Dagenham at the moment, they are as mid table as can be, 12th and 8 points from both the play off and relegation zones! Furthermore, they have just been beaten 1-4 at home to Pompey which may have knocked their confidence? They have a couple of familiar faces on board with Saah at the heart of defence and Azeez now on loan with them although only coming on as a sub last time out!
I suspect that Hargreaves will go with the same team for this one if Lathrope is still not fit. Having Cargill at left back certainly strengthens our defence and adds something going forward. Coulthirst adds a bit of quality up front, something we have been crying out for and a pity he wasn't with us sooner! Not sure Benyon is the right partner for him although can't fault his work rate. Goodwin and Cameron on the wings is a good combination and we now seem to be a threat going forward....

The fact we are so near the end of the season would mean that IF we could win the next couple we would be totally back in with a chance. It would be a lovely problem for the club to have if we could somehow drag this to the last game. The world and his wife would descend on Plainmoor if it all went down to the Wycombe game.

Calling all fans on the bench, in the family stand and on the famous pop side. We have had nothing to cheer all season, but now we have a slim, slim chance to get out of this mess.
I am calling everyone to arms for one last stand. Please dig out from the shed and the garage your old flags from wembley, the play offs and our magic promotion season and make this game a flag and banner day.
Come on yellow army your club needs you!

Register
I don't know where you get that from Reg ? I've read it through and couldn't see that Billy got a mention. Although the hack of a bookie does claim that an experienced hand such as Paul Bodin may be past his best. Celebrating his 50th birthday later this year, I suspect dear old Bodin Snr might be drawing that very same conclusion.
Alternatively, as I see a Paul Stockley also get's a mention, it could just be a case of calling everyone 'Paul' if you're not too sure of their correct First Christian name (it is Good Friday after all). I'd love to see us win today, and then again on Monday at Sid James. Winning goals from Danny, Billy, or even the goalkeeper Paul Rice will be equally welcome (smiley face).

Alfreton-Grimsby is on BT at 3:30 (delayed kick-off) if anyone wants to do some scouting for next year. Looks like that even with relegation we won't get away from Clem

So that is just about it I'm afraid. Another one of those games where we had numerous chances mainly from set pieces but the ball just wouldn't go into the back of the net. Plus ca change.
Looking forward to next season now......

Same old performance and same old result today I'm afraid against a very limited Dagenham team. Dagenham hardly did anything of note all game but won the match thanks to a gift of a penalty by the hapless Tonge. Torquay had plenty of pressure and indeed started the game brightly but you rarely expected them to actually score. Benyon, who like Tonge has been awful this season, had Torquay's best chance in the second half but fired over with their keeper to beat. This sums things up for me the fine lines between winning and losing - our defender gives away a needless penalty and our striker misses a 1-on-1. We have too many players not up to the required standard. Crowd 2,425, 100+ from Dadenham, sponsors MOTM and Twitter MOTM Ben Harding for a decent performance in central midfield.
The main talking points in the first half was when Coulthurst was fouled after a couple of minutes by Saah as the last man about 30 yards out. Saah got a yellow card and not a red as he was the the last man. Torquay were playing some good stuff. Cameron on the left looked dangerous and Cargill at left back looks quality. Mansell and Harding played well in central midfield and Coulthurst has great control and a bit of strength. Torquay's best chance was from a Cameron delivery that eventually fell to Pearce at close range. Sadly with the keeper already on the ground a goal looked certain but Pearce hit the ball tamely into the keeper's arms. Bodin went off injured and was replaced by Stevens. A feature of the game was when whenever a Torquay player beat a Dagenham one, he was brought down. I thought Dagenham were a pretty ugly team.
The second half evened out more with neither team threatening, it was mainly a midfield battle with few chances. On 67 minutes, Tonge should have cleared the ball in the penalty area, hestitated and ended up bringing down their player. Torquay did try and forced several corners, Benyon missed our clearest chance, time eventually ran out. Yeoman and Chappel came on for Tonge and Cameron and Torquay went to 3 at the back. With torquay pressing for an equalizer Dagenham should have wrapped it up but Rice saved a 1-on-1.
At full-time I was impressed with the home fans who politely clapped off our team. No booing our nasty gesturing, perhaps something premier team fans could learn from. Again we gave it our best shot, but we cannat score and give away easy goals. It's been like this all season and thankfully the season is nearly at an end. I doubt I will be going to our last home match.

Well Swanny there was nothing to boo today so I wasn't surprised most clapped the players off the field. In the main I was pleased with the effort and application, we pressed and dominated for most of the match. Just another in a very long list frustrating games where we just cannot stick the ball away. That has been and still is the reason why we are in this position and seemingly unable to halt the pattern of losing, usually by a single goal and dominating the play for large passages. The young players who have come in are doing a pretty good job and I thought we looked well set up and fairly balanced considering Greavsie's options particularly up front. Bodin again failed to make any impact in the time he was on the pitch he is the shadow of the player we saw when he arrived on the scene so wasn't really a miss when he went off injured. There were some good determined performances and I thought DR defended pretty well which Im certain was a reaction to last weeks heavy home defeat. Even with a win today the odds were firmly stacked against us and in all honesty Im glad in a way that the two seasons torture is now over though thee are no guarantees that next season will be any better though I live in hope we can make some sort of challenge and not continue to struggle week after week particularly on our own patch. On another thread I have put up some cuttings of one of our great escapes with headlines reading how it was all going to be put right next time around. Well we ecertainly put it right the following season when Roberts inherited the club. It makes interesting reading just eight years on. Two seasons ago we were all rejoicing in our success - the double over Plymouth etc etc Did any of us then think we would be in this position just two seasons on? It hasn't surprised me in all honesty we have a long history of being a roller coaster club. Although not confirmed mathematically we are all but down and are dangling over the precipice by the tiniest of threads which could finally and most likely snap on Monday at St James Park.
