Another tough and long away trip this week against Hargreaves home town club who had a short local Derby midweek! Thankfully, I think that the squad travel up on Friday!
Grimsby are a side that seem to struggle for consistency. Starting the season with three straight draws, including Bristol Rovers and Nuneaton they then walloped Gateshead 1-6 away and then Alfreton 7-0 at home. However, this did not kick start their season as a standard 2-0 home win against Welling was sandwiched by two narrow defeats away at Aldershot and Lincoln with the latter just coming on Tuesday!
So, Grimsby remain unbeaten at home and will be looking to extend that run. They have plenty of goals with Neilson and Pittman leading with 4 goals and John Lewis with 3! Pittman incidentally was released by Wycombe this summer.
Despite the travelling, Torquay was be in high spirits and full of confidence and I think it will be an unchanged line up. Nice to see Bowman score again and with an established strike partner, they generally hunt well in pairs! I think both Cameron and Briscoe are close to fitness but remains to be seen as to whether they travel. Another good day for the defence on Tuesday but this free scoring side should really test their mettle! I will settle for any return prior to two important home games next week.

Just noticed that a win would take our average up to 2 points per game! If we could do that at the place of one of the play off teams from last season...

Grimsby town another ex league club who think the are in the wrong division but as we all know to get out you need a certain amount of luck, above though all you need to earn it with consistent performances. Incredible they are on plus 12 goals while the two teams above are on minus one. To me that demonstrates a good side that is inconsistent and may be lacking some belief. Important if we are to have any success today that we put them on the back foot early if we can or the will grow into the game and score goals. A 6-1 win at Gateshead followed by a 7-0 just a few of games ago so we know they can perform and score goals. Think this could be another very tough encounter and with Woking to follow this match we should have a clearer understanding of exactly where we are. Draw for me 2-2.
