Here we go again.
At least I will have the witty repartee of Mr Trebus (copyright Keyberry Brian) to keep me entertained if the football is dire.
Two weeks ago, I forecast we would play a back four as we only had four defenders - but we played a midfielder at right wing back.
Last week, after we had signed a right wing back, I forecast we would stick to three at the back - but we left him out and played a back four.
Probably best if I don't try to read Owers' mind in future.
In front of the back four - in which Efete excelled at right back - we played Young in the holding central midfield role and young Fletcher as a lone hold-up centre forward. Dowling and O'Sullivan were ahead of Young, and Reid and Gosling played wide.
Although Young is a very gifted player, he doesn't really shield the centre backs in the way that a Lathrope or a Racchi would. So not surprising to see Eastleigh waltz through for their first. I am sure Fletcher has many qualities and will go on to a decent career, but he was a fish out of water in the role he was asked to play.
Will we go with the same formation again?
Gosling hobbled off last week and I have not heard if he is fit.
We have brought in another forward in Romain. Will he start or be on the bench? Word seems to be that he is not the "holdup centre forward" that we need, but could he play that role in a 4-3-3 anyway as a slightly less fish out of water than Fletcher? Or will he play in a front 2?
We have to juggle the loanees as we can only have 5 out of 6 in the 16. Efete is sure to be included and I would have thought Romain would be. Barnes will probably miss out if we play a back four, but if we do go back to a back three then one out of O'Sullivan, Dowling and Fletcher would have to miss out.
