I've never been to Nightingale park, in fact until it was touted as a possible venue for the new Plainmoor, a couple of years ago, I'd never even heard of it. I had to get on Google maps to locate it. My question is that the Libs want Torbay Council to 'protect Nightingale Park, near The Willows housing estate, and keep it for community and leisure use', but in every photo I've seen of it, it just seems to be a boggy field, with nothing in it. Is that a true reflection of its state? If so, who's it being preserved for? I only live a little way up from there. Used to walk the dog there sometimes and yes, it has a ridiculously high water table for some reason, particularly when you consider how much lower Marks/Sainsburys is. Usually boggy apart from the odd really dry July or August and only seems to be used by dog walkers, so yes, that's a pretty true reflection of it's state

A bit shocked to read the venues for Elton John's farewell tour: www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/going-out/music/elton-john-farewell-yellow-brick-13550641Gordon Oliver has told me that his personal friend Elton has been ringing him up and demanding that a stadium be built so that he can fulfill his lifetime ambition of playing a concert in Torquay. Clarke Osborne has confirmed the the Osborne Arena will be up and running by 2020. Why have the Torquay dates not been announced with the other arena dates? I just can't understand it.

a] Swindon newspaper report - worth keeping an eye on how the Osborne Swindon Stadium is shaping up with the latest planning permission finally having been granted but with Gaming International coming under strong criticism from the deputy chair of the planning committee. link - also a separate report by the BBC on this issue with chair of the planning committee Tim swinyard basically saying “what we don’t want to see is houses being built but with no stadium so no more houses to be built until the stadium is finished.

Swindon newspaper report - worth keeping an eye on how the Osborne Swindon Stadium is shaping up with permission finally having been granted but with Gaming International coming under strong criticism from the deputy chair of the planning committee. “I don’t want to see another house constructed on the site until Gaming International deliver a new speedway stadium that is good for Swindon”. “I don’t really trust them not to build more houses and then not deliver the stadium and just sod off, basically“. And this is simply to pop in a pre-fab shed on the existing blueprint which on last sketch appeared unfit for viewing purposes. Strong words. Although likely busy on other pressing issues tonight, we await AJ’s Militant admonishment of the Conservative councillor there. Stadia 2020 failure will be seen by AJ as the fault of others and not the fault of someone who has repeatedly failed to fulfill numerous talked about brand new Stadia. Housing and commercial development has tended to pop up minus the stadium as the many examples have illustrated. It’s been a few years since AJ put that ceremonial dig photo up. Perhaps a small montage of that and the pre-fab photo shoot needs to do the rounds again. Or will it be an image from India via Grimsby that we are treated to? You’d laugh if it wasn’t so sad. But unfortunately, sad songs say so much.

And while the deputy chair of the committee, Toby Elliott spoke in support of the application – he had stinging words for the stadium owners Gaming International.
He said: “It’s been incredibly frustrating trying to get this stadium delivered.
“I don’t want to see another house constructed on the site until Gaming International deliver a new speedway stadium that is good for Swindon.
“It shows the esteem the developer shows this committee that they can’t be bothered to turn up tonight - it’s disgusting frankly.
He added: "I don’t really trust them not to build more houses and then not deliver the stadium and just sod off, basically. We need to put a line in the sand because the developer is still in breach of the previous section 106 agreement. We should say what enforcement we’re going to bring.”Another reminder that safeguards are not always as safe as you might hope and that agreements are there to be broken. Swindon councillors have learned from bitter experience - although there were many who predicted this would turn out exactly how it has. Fortunately, Torbay councillors are fully aware of this and understandably very wary. Gordon Oliver seems absolutely determined to ignore GI's history. "I look to the future not the past" is what he repeated ad infinitum when I asked him about it. I will be charitable and put that down to stupidity rather than anything more sinister. I will rest a little more easy when the old fool is officially put out to pasture. More details of s106 breach here: www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/80644-swindon-stadium/&page=8752 In 2015 the new s106 agreement agreed alongside the new 2015 outline planning permission sought to further safeguard the delivery of the new stadium, amongst other planning considerations and included the following requirements; a) To submit an application for reserved matters approval for the new stadium before the defined "long stop date" and to use their reasonable endeavours to obtain planning consent for the new stadium on or before the new stadium reserved matters planning application long stop date; this was defined as 12 months after completion of the agreement, namely before April 2016. b) That the applicant use "their reasonable endeavours to ensure and/or procure Practical Completion of the New Stadium" on or before the defined stadium construction "long stop date", defined as 18 months after the completion of the agreement in April 2015, namely before October 2017. c) Not to occupy any additional residential units constructed on land identified within the agreement (described as the "restricted zone" that is occupied by the existing stadium) until the practical completion of the New Stadium. d) To make provision for a site for the Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (now the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service) for a new fire station north. 53 As described above at paragraph 15 above, although an application for reserved matters approval for the new stadium was approved in August 2016, the works to carry out the development did get underway and the new stadium was not completed in accordance with the agreed "long stop date" of October 2017. The Borough Solicitor formally notified the applicant and other parties with an interest in the land, that the failure to provide the open space and to complete the new stadium was in breach of the s106 agreement.

I don't think we can hold the Conservative councillor responsible for the hideously biased reporting of the Swindon Advertiser. And most TFF readers will note the unjustified negative spin that three TUST members have attempted to apply.
Fair minded readers will look at the facts and separate them out from the delirious TUST Militant spin. That Councillor most probably voted in favour of granting G.I permission for the stadium (we know for certain he didn't vote against it) as he 'spoke in support of the application'. So to give us an accurate picture or to learn both sides of the story let's hear about all those things in favour that convinced Councillor Elliott to speak in it's support !
So we get a link enabling us to read only the negative side and the complaints, and then we get to read those very same one-sided points in big bold letters, all over again from another Militant.
What actually happened was that the case for G.I and their new stadium construction was so overwhelmingly favourable that 'The application was granted permission by nine votes to one abstention'.......not one single vote against !
'I don’t want to see another house constructed on the site until Gaming International deliver a new speedway stadium that is good for Swindon'. Well good for you Councillor, and I expect you'll probably be driving home to a nice detached four bedroom house in a pleasant part of town straight after the meeting. But for a lot of ordinary people in Swindon who have seen wages depressed and property prices sky rocket because of the open door immigration polices favoured by Corbynista TUST Militants, it is these very houses that G.I are constructing that are far more good for Swindon and it's people than a noisy speedway stadium, whether or not it incorporates facilities for dogs to run round in a circle. For huge numbers of young families or those hoping to escape the rental sector, a speedway stadium will come much farther down the list of 'what's good for Swindon'.....but with G.I now firmly on course to deliver both, then why not enjoy the best of both worlds ? Unsurprising contemptuous dismissal from the middle class Militants only concerned with their own recreational facilities, but the less affluent people of Swindon cheer the sight of more houses appearing along with the nice new speedway stadium.
Yet again we witness the extent to which the fanatical Militants are blinded by their own prejudice. They attempt to twist and slant things until they hope the facts are no longer recognisable. Don't be taken in, don't be fooled, don't swallow TUST Militant spin. Once you cut through it all, the message from the Swindon Council Committee was All those in favour of G.I's stadium development = 9 All those against = 0

Does anyone really care about this anymore? As long as there is a Plainmoor........I don't think there is much chance of the freehold being sold to anyone, so the worst scenario is status quo. I admire your optimism. The very worst scenario you can imagine, given Osborne’s back catalogue, is the status quo. Ok, Flo. I’ll leave someone else to correct you about Swindon. Think I know who it might be and the angle taken, which of itself might be a shame, given the informative discussion previously had on the subject. Interesting take on fans and moving on after their club is lost, though. I’ll give you that.

Rob Translation: 'On the subject of Swindon, Floridagull needs to be restricted to reading only specially filtered information, approved and provided by the Ministry of TUST'That snippet revealing that Swindon Speedway fans enjoy cheering on their successful team at a stadium in the town, will go down like a lead balloon. There'll be an inquest at the Ministry

AJ’s opportunity for a rehashed hard hat montage of his favoured Osborne ancient ceremonial Swindon dig/Osborne prefab sheds in Wales photos squandered. Overlooked for a pop at some Torquay fans. Anyway, here’s some more guff from Osborne on a new stadium. I nearly stopped reading after the opening gambit that we were elected to the League in 1920. Note spectator numbers quoted differ already from previous guff. Stadia 2020 seemingly revised to being ‘on the horizon’ at that point. www.torquayunited.com/torquay-united-included-in-the-2017-18-parliamentary-review-for-digital-culture-media-sport/

I am not sure that quoting the words of a councillor verbatim really amounts to negative spin.
I do accept that the councillor's membership of the Tory Party probably places him much too far to the left of the political spectrum for AJ to respect his views.
Triumphalism over the granting of planning permission is maybe a little premature as Swindon Council has granted planning permission for a new stadium quite a few times over the past twelve years - none of these permissions leading to the actual building of a stadium. No signs of a left-wing council (from AJ's point on the political spectrum) delaying a willing stadium builder - although AJ will spin it that way.
Florida may not be able to understand what any of this has to do with Torquay United, but I am sure most people will.
As we receive promises and assurances from GI about safeguarding the club's future, we can place these in the context of their past record of keeping promises.
I look to the future but learn lessons from the past.

First confirmation we will be back in the league by 2020 or 2021 at the latest though. Fits in with what Johnson is saying about getting ready for the league above.

I googled 'Swindon Robins' and found that they race at the Swindon Stadium and have done since 1949. I thought there was no speedway stadium in Swindon but it appears there has been for the past 69 years. So why is the GI non-build considered a big deal? You are on a wind-up, aren't you Florida? Yes, Swindon has a speedway stadium. Does it need or has it ever needed a new one? Well, Gaming International came along twelve years ago and told them that they did, promising a sparkling new stadium far better than the one they already had. Sounds familiar? To build the stadium, they needed a lot of very profitable enabling development. Safeguards were put in place so that they could not just "build more houses and then not deliver the stadium and just sod off" as the Tory councillor so eloquently put it. But the safeguards have proved worthless. There will be no new stadium. The best offer now on the table is that the size of the track is reduced and a pre-fab shed put in to replace what has made way for more housing built right up to the perimeter of the old stadium. This seems to be a recurrent modus operandi for GI. They "try to build stadia", as Bill Glass once said, but as AJ has suggested on another thread "they soon cottoned on that it was in their interest to botch the job as much as possible. They have most probably botched it (accidentally on purpose)". Does it matter to me that they have never built a stadium? Not really. The important lesson to learn is that you cannot take any of their promises at face value. If you can't see that, I give up.
