Concur - would like to see Wynter and Niate secured though both have good prospects and would be attributes in the National League. Fair enough for Reid he deserves the opportunity to look at other options - he at least will be with us until the end of the season (unless snapped up before). Still wonder if Nabi might have something to offer as he has not been shipped out. Has a good pedigree in terms of his earlier development although perhaps was not fully fit when he arrived? Dickson may have fitness issues but surely is good enough for NL?

Well, you have got your wish with Wynter signing for another season. It was quite interesting in that his place was very much in doubt but ever since making it back to the side he has steadily improved to the extent he is putting in MOTM performances. Certainly won me over along with most if not all fans as he finally achieves something of his potential. Along with Reid it shows that it is not always black and white whether someone is a good or bad player and having the right conditions in place for someone to be able to excel is very important.

Just to recap that is now eight players that have re-signed this month for next season. This includes all of our back five that have started the last couple of games being MacDonald, Davis, Sendles-White, Wynter and Cameron. Almost Owers like in having a strong defensive unit set up and that actually is his defence with the exception of Sendles-White.
In midfield we have Kalala and Hall with Keating now also playing almost exclusively on the right wing but able to cover up front as well. However, with a heavy reliance on the Bristol City loanees the only notable exception from that list is Jamie Reid. Worth considering that of the seven goals and six assists from yesterday, twelve were from either City or Reid with just the one assist from Keating that contributed to this tally. Once again Reid contributed 2 goals and a further 2 assists from his tireless work rate and his partnership with Janneh is a real strength of this team, I would love to see them both back again next season.

Also Koszela as well. Would be good to see Niate signed up and possibly Dickson. Seems Nabi will leave eventually since he has not figured in recent times. All that is left would be to get Reid signed up but wonder if he may be moving on if no contract extension agreed soon?

Wonderful news - Reid has signed a new contract. Unbelievable that we almost have a full team for 2019/20 already! Wonder if Niate and Dickson will be part of it?

I really like the way that Johnson has gone about assembling his squad and although he has been quite ruthless with players that don’t make the grade and to be fair what is the point if they are not going to be played, he has shown a lot of faith in those that can do the job and no one is going to be worried that they may be released once they have achieved promotion.
So not only is everyone fully committed to the short-term goal of promotion but if that is achieved then the club itself has a certain amount of protection from other clubs looking to see if they can tempt players away during the off-season. Also it provides a cohesive and well motivated unit to start next season where we have every chance of hitting the ground running.

Having listened to the Devon live podcast with Dave Thomas I hear that Dickson was actually signed on a two year contract last summer hence why there has been no mention of him so that is actually 11 players signed up for next season! As Rob has mentioned on another thread, Nabi has been told to look for another club so no need for another “where’s Mo?” type thread eh Phil!
Apparently Johnson also hinted that a couple of the Bristol CIty lads could possibly be back next year if we did get promoted so would then only need a few more in to fine tune the squad.

link - Gary Johnson interview that I think was mainly reported upon in the podcast yesterday but talking about the backing he has received to sign these players and to have everyone onside and committed to the club for next season with promotion by no means certain.

Not in Garry's plans quite obviously. Has undoubted ability but I fear too heavy legged for our style of play.
Reduces the squad even further though and cannot think of too many "spares" who can cover at the moment.
I hope we don't pick up long term injuries or suspensions. It would be nice to think Opi Edwards will figure again at some point soon though I doubt it will be many games if any.
