It has been a tremendous start to the season with five wins out of six and now on a run of four straight wins. We now have two tough away games this week with a chance to go top of the league before FA Cup action the following weekend.
Looking at Aldershot’s results they seem to be a solid mid table side narrowly losing to sides towards the top of the division, Hartlepool, Sutton and in the FA Cup on Saturday Woking. (all by a 2-1 score line) They smashed Dover 5-0 (compared to 2-0 for us) and conceded a goal late on to draw 2-2 against a good Eastleigh side (we lost 2-1). Aldershot do not then play after our game until 14 November due to the Notts County game being postponed and not in FAC1R.
Their fans were pleased with the streaming service on Saturday if not their performance although one had trouble after paying for the game on his phone and then not being able to watch it on another device so might be worth bearing that in mind.
What was pleasing about the Sholing game was we were able to rest five starters from the previous game, take off Whitfield and Randall after the hour mark and get 90 minutes of game time in for Warren, MacDonald and Hall for the first time this season. Umerah also was able to play 80 minutes on his own up front and score his first goal after a couple weeks off injured, not to mention the return of Little. A very good game by Johnson I think.
So lots of options and decisions for Johnson to make. If we play 4-4-2 then likely to be two out of Cameron, Warren and Sherring in central defence assuming Moxey was rested on Saturday or just had a slight knock and will be fit. In central midfield, two out of Randell, CLE and Hall with Little likely to come on as a sub. Up front, two out of Wright, Umerah and Britton or play one striker with CLE in the hole, a role Little can also take over.
I can see us having something like MacDonald, Warren, Little, Hall and Umerah on a very strong bench.....
