went to see David Essex last week, gone was the long dark hair, now short and gray, but once the show started, you soon forgot that. Nearly a quarter of a century ago I took the wife of a friend of mine to the Wolfrun Hall in Wolverhampton to see David Essex in his "Imperial Wizard" tour ( the album even came out on blue vinyl) Eric (the husband) wouldn't entertain the idea - being a mate of Robert Plant who considered Led Zepp's music a bit "noncy" With his "gypsey boy look" and the fact that he had played the character who killed Ringo Starr in some film of the day, Essex had to endure a lot of barracking and abuse from the auditorium that night - it all seems a long way off now when I saw his tour poster the other day with that receding grey hairline and goatee beard.

Went to the Virgin Megastore (now called Zaavi) in Oxford Street yesterday for a live appearance/ album signing by the one and only CHAKA KHAN. She sang 2 numbers off her new album "FUNK THIS" and then finished off with the alltime classic "I'm EVERY WOMAN." One thing that completely blew me away was the power in her voice...............Boy has she got some vocal range!! She really is one of the true Soul Divas of our time. Needless to say, now I have my own personally dedicated copy of the album, I'll be playing it to death!! ........Might even invest in some standing tickets to see her in all her glory at the Indigo 02 (or The Millenium Dome to the uninitiated) on the 22nd of this month - there are still a few left!!

Went to the Virgin Megastore (now called Zaavi) in Oxford Street yesterday for a live appearance/ album signing by the one and only CHAKA KHAN. Phoarrrrrrrrr..............Chaka Khan - alongside Mica Paris, my all time pin-up/mature totty and two bloody great singers. When they put on a bit of middle aged spread, these soul divas' acquire a built in "sound box" that resonates the end product something brilliant. I'll never forget the day I was Mica's driver and had to go looking for her in Sloane Street as she's left her Blackberry in my car. All those swanky shops have doormen who look down their nose at you as if to say "what have you come to nick?" and saying to them "I'm looking for Mica Paris, is she in here?" only invoked more disdain as if to say "yeah, aren't we all buddy"I drove Michael Absolom to that store on Sunday morning, I bet you wouldn't get horny over him Kev, and yesterday's celeb was Andy Parsons..................no not that one, the one from "Mock The Week"on BBC 2.

Looks like you missed a golden opportunity for a footy chat whilst "on the job" there Merse!! I must confess I didn't know that, but he did say he was going to spend the journey to the Beeb working which he did spending the 40 minute run on his lap top and phone. Very nice guy, appreciative and punctual! (with me driving how could he not be!) When driving any client, establishing their preferences and adhering to them are a priority; and those who require peace to work through their journey are used to politely making their wishes known.

...............Talking of "footy chat", I drove another guy recently who asked me where my accent was from and when I told him he enquired whether I had heard of John Cornforth and Wes Saunders. He said he played in the County Youth side with Corny and was a colleague of Wes in the rag trade....................small world!
