Ah, White Horses what a great tune - you have a great Christmas Bully, doubt if I'll see you on Boxing Day - down in the home of Trelawney and clotted cream on top ;D Have Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - Global A Go-Go lined up in a minute. What a great voice and talent that bloke had (managed to see the Clash in Torquay July 1978, Exeter Uni in Nov 78 and in Birmingham and Bristol). The Dumpling beckons after the Carol Service later (just the wife going this year). I'll try and catch an episode of 'Tour of Duty' on FX. Merry Christmas to all.... ......and Athbhliain faoi mhaise duit to youse too, Phil - ah, the late great Joe Strummer eh - one of our learned friends on here (Bridgygull - ie Roger) used to be his postie Somerset way, I do believe - Joe was one of musics' great political activists, never afraid to stand up for what he believed in - a real champion of the underdog, I reckon - I have a VHS tape of when he was doing lead vocals for the Pogues when Shane was on one of his enforced erm breaks - Joe was an excellent stand-in (Town & Country Club, Kentish Town, Smoke circa 1988 methinks).......... ...........I managed to see The Pogues twice for my sins over the years - once back in 84/85 time at Portsmouth Uni Students Refectory when they were still Pogue Mahone - a mental night I vaguely recall, with cheap Uni Bar beer, a mixture of punks, goths, teddyboys, rockabillys and new age travellers all moshing it up to Shane and the band doing the likes of Waxies' Dargle, Streams Of Whiskey and Sally MacLennane - Cait the bass player had a six-pack of cider hanging off the neck of her guitar, she also solo'ed on a gorgeous acoustic version of "A Man You Don't Meet Every Day" and Spider spent most of the night head banging a beer tray, and once at Finsbury Park, Smoke in summer of 1987 - Picnic In The Park - also on bill were The Proclaimers and Alias Ron Kavana - ah, memories.... www.pogues.com ........in homage, playing now - A Pair Of Brown Eyes - The Pogues........ and White Riot - The Clash...................

...........I have been after the following little beauty for many a year now - it came out in 1976 on vinyl of course - single - hadn't managed to hear it for years - only really remembered it by snatches of the chorus, and have been scanning web for years now with no joy, with no real way of locating it due to virtual extinction of record shops and chasing of old material etc............. Back On Watership Down - Robin ..........however, due to the wonders and trickery of t'interweberry and Googling, I have finally located said song............ itunes.apple.com/us/album/sweet-surrender-ember-pop/id332048033...........on a compilation album - "Sweet Surrender - Ember Pop - 1970-1978" - ordered off Amazon.............. ...........it is also now on Youtube (on the off-chance you might like to ahem hear it also), and typical - also in 2 forms of single off Amazon now as well, I understand I am quite likely the only person in the world apart from Robin, who actually still remembers this but hey, we're a broad church round here.......... .........aah, music of my youth........... .......fantakkers - "Eeeeh, I'm right chuffed"..........

Great to hear you finally found a copy of the record in the end Mr W. There is no greater feeling sometimes of finally coming across something you have been after for years. The power of the Internet is a wonderful thing and what a great tool it can be. I bet you get fed up with after just five plays and put it on ebay

Tyrannosaurus Rex -
My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair... But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows
Now Bolan had talent, in fact he had more talent is his little finger than Gary 'I'm a big fat Northern git' Barlow who if he lived 'till he was 400 couldn't write a song as good as any penned by the impish God.

Now, you know you'll upset TUFC01 I wasn't going to rise to it, BUT..... Actually I think they are BOTH talented. Honestly I do. ;D I wouldn't argue how great a singer/songwriter Bolan was, but equally in a different genre & era Barlow has been just as successful. The youngest is teaching me to play her electric guitar and the only two songs I am learning (really badly) are Ride a white swan & get it on. 2 great songs, maybe I should move onto Never forget or Greatest Day.

.......just seen on Sky Breaking News - Gerry Rafferty has passed away aged 63 - how bloody sad, another musician from the halcyon days of my youth gone - and he was absolutely full of talent, a great song-writer and singer of fantastic melodies..........
Don't Speak Of My Heart - Gerry Rafferty - surely his finest moment - well, for me it was anyway, RIP.........

..........and rather less reported, also yesterday, Mick Karn (bassist of band Japan) also gone to his eternal rest - I was never a huge fan of the British New Romantic "men in dresses and eyeliner" scene, preferring the rather grubbier New York Dolls version from over Stateside, but I did have a very soft spot for Japan, and David Sylvians' fantastic vocal range, reminiscent to me anyway of Bryan Ferry in a lot of ways so Mick Karn RIP..................
