Dave - I thought it was only me but I was actually hoping that Rowe-Turner would be sent off so that Buckle would not be able to play him on Tuesday night. That might sound a ridiculous point of view but he really was that bad. I cannot make head nor tail of why Smith is not playing. I am not a lover of Jake Thomson's attitude but he as a winger he is light years ahead of Macklin. We were quite dire but it was after all a massive three points which really was all that mattered.

I heard Smith was still not 100% after a recent nasty virus, but was on the bench since if we had used either Thomson or O'Kane, we'd have had four wingers there!

miac your a brave man saying that you know you have put yourself at risk of being called all sorts of names and might even be offered some suggestions Playing that poorly will cost us relegation and it won't be my supposed naivety that will

Hi mates - well Buckles boys came up trumps today. More points on the scoreboard. We are climbing up the league faster than Jm gull scuttling out the ground with his old man for a smoke break and missing the winner. Blow me down old jm talks some shite though. That leroy Turner-Rowe bloke should have had his marching orders alright. Blimey Jm ought to borrow his old mans glasses (and they look like a couple jam jars and no mistake). Nearly cut their winger in half he did. If he'd been the other side of the touchline he would have been done for Gbh. nearly cut the poor sod in half.

Just popped on for a quick read thinking everybody would be cheerful and mates after we won and it seems to be worse than when we lose ... then after only a few minutes of scanning the meerkat chap pops up with some inane comments fully in keeping and character with what I expect from him/her so am going to seek solace in my bed and hope you have all cheered up in the morning

I did not take up the season ticket offer as I felt the club would be losing out too much. You could have made up the difference on 50:50 tickets, Dave. I know other season ticket holders have, safe in the knowledge they were helping out close season when revenue streams are traditionally much tighter for Clubs. Just a thought. A lot of Clubs have tried different measures this last season to encourage more through the gates and I doubt that trend will cease next season. It's probably too short a notice to reduce prices and market for the Daggers match - as Grimsby et al have also trialled this season -, but it would be nice to have as many as possible at Plainmoor on Tuesday on the back of a win today. I digress. Three points. How good that feels.

Well said miac. My sentiments exactly and I was at the game so I can judge for myself that those two "players" are not up to it and do not benefit the club at this time. They are no better than the players already at the club and are therefore pointless signings.
I can only wonder at people who are hundreds of miles away from the game that can make judgements on players who they cant see.......an amazing talent.
Those who think it was a triumph for Mr Buckle today should really find out what is going on behind the scenes the more I hear the more worried I am.

I can't agree with the first sentence but the rest of this is spot on. The manager seems to believe in a policy whereby players who have recently been absent through injury or illness never come straight back into the starting team, even when they are clearly better than their interim replacements. Smith and Carlisle should have been in the team from the start today, based on their earlier performances. Jake Thomson may not set the world alight with his desire to "track back", to coin a modern phrase, but he is a very dangerous player when given a free rein and has been marginalised very unfairly in my view. At least we now have outstanding players in Ellis and Carlisle back in the side, but there are still glaring weaknesses in some positions. As Andy Charles has said much more eloquently than I coukl in his first post about today's game, we are still papering over obvious cracks by not playing our strongest team.

I can only wonder at people who are hundreds of miles away from the game that can make judgements on players who they cant see.......an amazing talent. I have yet to read a post from someone "hundreds of miles away" making judgements on players they can't see Ajax. If you are inferring it is me, then I suggest you re-read my post responding to the ridiclulous pontification over a player doing something pivotal in stopping the destructive flow of an opponent and more or less suggesting from another source that we will more than likely stay up with the "Browny Points" of good sportsmanship than the very real extra three points we have gained yesterday by turning potential defeat into victory. Just as I can't "judge" a player over the radio, neither can you from watching over two debut appearances. As regards people saying Adam Smith should have started, do they have the knowledge of his physical state after a week of illness? If (say) he has had the vomitting and diarohea bug do they know just how dehydrated his body might still be? Do they really know just what capacity his body contained yesterday for ninety minutes of professional football? Of course they don't and of course the club's medical staff, management and the player himself do. The same applies to Wayne Carlisle, he has to be allowed to return in a graduated and sensible manner or else we run the risk of him breaking down and losing him for the rest of the season......................I thought any experienced supporter would realise that basic fact. As has already been pointed out, Smith's inclusion on the bench was to avoid the scenario of having four wingers on there at the expense of a defender. Do we not have a four day/two match programme to undertake this week? Are D&R not the most physically demanding and pacy of opponents to have to face on Tuesday? Could Smith not indeed have been held back from Saturday in order to be in the best possible physical condition for Tuesday? Not judging things form hundreds of miles away Ajax, merely applying a little common sense whilst realising that young players need to be allowed to grow into their newly found level of playing. Read my post again and realise that I do not pass judgement on any players' performance, merely pass comment on someone's issue with a match report from someone who actually was there and does at least have experience of competitive sport. We have now drawn a fair distance away from Grimsby's position, cut the manager and the tream some slack and appreciate that. Take on board that ten games without a win will do more to influence confidence of seeing out a game until it is actually won than any other factor and rejoice in the FACT that the sequence has been broken and that currently the much criticised team including it's much derided two young debutants have now gone three games unbeaten.

A rare missed home game for me and ironically the Hereford match was the previous one. However, in a relegation scrap points are king and and after an incredibly frustrating season lady luck has finally smiled on us to give us five points from the last three as opposed to one! In fact, four points from the last two games keeps us on target for twelve points in a crucial six game period to end up towards the forty point mark where hopefully thoughts can slowly turn towards building for next season. We have the best goal difference of the bottom six teams and as a very rough measure extrapolating the average points per game over the entire season and rounding up the decimal point would give. Team Played Current Points Projected points Darlington 29 15 24 Grimsby 33 24 34 Cheltenham 32 31 45 Macclesfield 31 32 48 Torquay 33 32 45 Lincoln 32 33 48

I saw a lot of happy faces leave Plainmoor tonight, but I'll be completely honest and say mine was not one of them. While obviously delighted at taking the three points, and seeing the much improved table after a decent set of results for us, to me the result did nothing but paper over the cracks that are still clearly in evidence. But that spell apart Torquay were abysmal until the break. I hate singling out players, but I do feel Lloyd Macklin to be one of the most ineffective wingers I have ever seen, while Lathaniel Rowe-Turner should be nothing more than our third choice left back after Smith and Nicholson. Good post Andy. Three very lucky points and should be realised that lady luck was with us today. We are still two key players short of a good team -midfield and burly striker. Macklin (IMO) has nothing more to offer than Thompson and Rowe-Turner if he was a horse should have been taken outside and shot. Zebs is wasted on the wing and this gives us Benners as a good impact sub. Some bloke I stood in front of in the first half was obviously not impressed with Benyon. The Rib-Eye steak and copious amounts of John Smiths (Cask) bitter last night haven't tasted so nice in ages.

My usual quota of Saturday night stella along with half of a No22 (no prawns) and a beef curry (no peas) tasted a lot better than it has in recent weeks too. The fact that we were dire in the first half and not much better in the second seemed a distant memory. I cant remember the last time I looked forward to seeing the football league show highlights so much and I even gave the delivery driver a £2 tip. What am I going to do when we win next seasons FA cup final.

Well, my first game of the season. Hard to get to Plainmoor from Tokyo regularly. Some points that crossed my mind below. No particular order so sorry if disjointed.
My main impressions of the team were Branston and Ellis work well together. We miss Hargreaves in midfield. We are very lightweight in attack with Barnes rather a girls blouse, and that Rowe-Turner is not ready for professional football.
Plenty has been said about Rowe-Turner and I will add! He looked as if he didn't know where he was. Almost in an alternate reality from the look on his face. No communication from him to other players. Often out of position and committing himself when he had no chance of getting the ball, thus leaving acres of space behind him. Those that comment that he has only had two games and should be given a chance are living in a dream world I'm afraid. Yes, I'm all for giving players a chance, but not at the risk of being relegated. This player is currently an obvious liability, and I join the opinion that I was hoping for a red card, as Stanley looked the more likley to score, especially coming down the right wing, and I do not trust Buckle not to pick him again. I mentioned to my friend at the match in arund the first 3 minutes that he didn't seem to be at the game. It was that obvious.
Their manager obviously noted this, hence sending on the pacey winger to attack him. It worries me that Buckle did not notice this and do something about it. I'm not sure how getting ripped to shreds will help his confidence for future games should Buckle make the mistake of playing him.
Zebs should have been played up front from the start. Barnes just doesn't get hold of the ball and falls over too easily. Benyon actually does better than Barnes with the highballs. Seems he tries to knock centre backs off balance by sticking his arse in the back of their knees! Anyhow, any balls sentt forward come staright back and we end up under pressure. Zebs has way more guile and needs to be centre forward as we have noone else that can do it.
Carlise looked a class above the rest of our players. An intelligent player. His through ball to Benyon led to our opening goal. It would have put Benyon in a great position for a shot had Benyon not miscontrolled it. Credit to Benyon that he chased down his miscontrol and reached it at the same time as their defender, resulting in a ricochet out to Mansell who had intelligently run into the space left behind Benyon, and Mansell planting the ball in the bottom corner.
Both Zebs and Carlisle missed absolute sitters. Barnes and Benyon missed a couple of decent chances. We made more clear chances than Stanley and they looked pretty poor until we scored and they sent on the winger to attck our left back. Certainly they looked more likely to win the game after their equaliser.
God knows what the offside rule is these days but Barnes was certainly well offside and was muscling their defenders away from the ball when the OG was scored, so was obviously interfering with play. Some bloke behind me says that if the ball insn't touched by the player in an offside position then it isn't offside. Doesn't sound right to me, but...
Overall a disjointed performance where we made enough chances to win it, but the overall performance was poor and I came away feeling we were very lucky to win.

Well aren`t we all in a good mood, bitching at each other, point scoring and name calling, this is more like a bloody school play ground than a fans forum! Can we all get along just a little bit (I know I`m a hypocrite but sometimes even I`m right ) FFS people are we United or divided? Begining to do my head in with all this " You weren`t there I was" crap, if someones got an opinion let them have it and don`t try too belittle them because they listened to the radio, this constant one-upmanship and self proclaimed excellence is so childish, half of you wouldn`t carry on like this if you were face to face with each other so why do it hiding behind a keyboard, just accept other people have an opinion and sometimes are not going to agree about everything! Now for me to have to come out with this must speak volumes, can we all play nicely now children???
