Great piece AJ and a pretty fair reflection on events with a nice smattering of good humour. Every word you have written with regards to Kevin Nicholson I completely agree with and why he has been just tossed to one side for the bulk of the season is a mystery to me. Pure class and back with a hunger to prove a few people wrong perhaps. What a waste though I remember many critics on both fan sites saying he wasn't good enough for league football and was far to slow. In those early games he was undoubtedly shown up by some genuine pace but he was by no means alone on that score. Whether Buckle listened to the cries for his exclusion is another matter but Nico, unfairly ended up as the scapegoat for our poor results and consequently we have suffered as a result and until yesterday I thought that Buckle had dug his stubborn heels in with regards to his selection. He was indeed a breath of fresh air as was Mussy who looks to have taken his chance well though you do wonder if he will be selected again this season so strange is his position at the club . A huge talent with the ball at his feet, as good as Thomson who seems to have vanished into thin air, but inevitably mercurial. Next week he could be just as awful as he was brilliant this week. Personally I love this type of player, the Marmite of the lower divisions and its why I go to watch a game , to be entertained. What it does show up is the very fact that Buckle has been unable to attract better all season and is still struggling to improve the squad with Zebs being the only real step up and basically we have the same squad as last year trying to keep us up despite all the loans and youngsters introduced. Its going to be tight tcome the end and another weekend like yesterday will have us tearing our hair out though there will be plenty of twists and turns to come over the remainder of the season I just don't want any last day dramas of previous seasons after witnessing them all and Colchester stands out for me with everything in our favour to survive we cocked it up. Role on the Cricket season. Even Bangladesh scored over 400!

and now one that really caught me out. I assumed this guy was a new signing we'd not been able to register in time for the game. As you can see the composure & technique is first class, the very qualities we often lacked during the match. Imagine my surprise on learning he wasn't the new £50,000 striker I imagined but actually one of the ground staff ! Did you see the back heel then? He`s quality that bloke he should start every game!

I'm not too good on match reports.... it's hard enough remembering who's done what in all the excitement... But after Saturday's game I decided to put the feelings into words and add them to one of my favourite tracks. So, with apologies to Ottis Redding, this is my way of putting across how I felt before, during and after the game (If it doesn't load please pm me and let me know as it's the first time I've tried linking music... thanks) So to hear Sitting in a Stand in the BayClick on this link: www.extence.co.uk/sitting.mp3

Budleigh, many thanks for your really flattering words in Saturday's programme. My Mrs has no idea what I write on here and couldn't believe that it was me whom you were referring to.
I left the ground after the match feeling more frustrated and disappointed than I have for many years. How could we have lost that game after dominating almost throughout ?
It was really all down to panicking in front of goal and hesitancy in front of our own, but at the end of the day it has to be said that Lincoln had two outstanding players and nine mediocre ones, and on any other day Rob Burch in their goal would have been acclaimed as their matchwinner.
If the game back in 1962 was Albert Broadbent's match, then this was surely Davide Somma's. He showed sublime skill throughout the game and it occurred to me at one point how unfair it was than Lincoln had acquired such a player and we hadn't.
Having said that, I agree (for once) with the manager that we gifted them their goals, or at least two of them. The corner which led to their first goal appeared to be mishit, but Somma sized on it and had it in the net while none of the four defenders around him were sharp enough to get in a tackle or block.
The second goal was eerily reminiscent of one we conceded at Salisbury last season, when a player was allowed to dribble all the way along the byeline and set up an easy chance. Somma did brilliantly to make a monkey out of Mansell, but then Robertson and Ellis made pathetic challenges and allowed the cut back, and even then Wroe had every opportunity to clear, but somehow fluffed it completely. No wonder Branston was going berserk.
As for the third goal, the ball was booted down the middle and the entire defence seemed to be sleeping. In all honesty, I don't think that Ellis would have got to the ball even if he had not slipped. It was one of those goals out of nothing which can happen at any level.
As I have stated on another thread, for me Kevin Nicholson completely changed the game when he came on, and produced a performance which has been desperately missed since he lost his place back in November. He didn't put a foot wrong as far as I could see, and could so easily have won the game for us on another day.
I was also impressed with Adam Smith and particularly with Carayol, who seems to have found a new lease of life. His loping sort of stride completely belies his pace and ability on the ball.
Nicholson's shot, Rendell's glaring miss, and those two or three goalmouth scrambles, all of these conspired to make it an afternoon of total frustration for me. We still have it all to do and the game at Grimsby next month could easily turn out to be another Barnet.
