Same team as at County, but with Rendell for Benyon. My prediction is that we'll bleddy 'ammer 'em.

This is exactly the sort of game we tend to make a mess of. Coming back from a fantastic performance/result in a game we weren't expected to get anything from, the expectancy is now much higher that we'll win this one. Hopefully the County result will provide the confidence we've lacked, and the players can ignore the higher levels of expectancy of the home fans.
In terms of the team, i'd agree Benyon looks like a player needing a break. He looks physically and mentally drained. Get Rendell in, and hopefully he'll give the kind of masterclass he gave against Chesterfield. I'd like to see Carlisle restored to the starting 11 too, as he's been one of our most consistent performers this season. But I can't decide between him and Thompson for that job in midfield.

Shane.......drop Benyon are you sure ;D? Back to the tried and trusted 4-4-2 for saturday i reckon, a game i'm feeling confident about......think we'll win well actually and will have a few quid on 4-0, or 4-1, always a generous price. An early goal for us is key though. Thompson (very unluckily) i think will miss out, i'm sure he'll go with Wroe and Hargreaves with Carlisle and maybe Stevens on the wings. Usual back four with Charnock (again unluckily) missing out. Sills and Rendell up top......and the emphasis on getting crosses into the box. Of course a new signing or two could blow it all out of the water...

Shane.......drop Benyon are you sure ;D? Even i have to admit he's lacking a little of his usual sharpness at the moment. A couple of weeks on the bench and he'll be back to his best.

A bit like the Grimsby game but now with some good recent results on board. A win would push us up and a enormous boost of confidence. A loss would throw us back and we have to start all over again...

That shows just how fragile the "green shoots" are at the moment..... A defeat on Saturday is unthinkable, but a victory would propel us out of the drop-zone and perhaps on our way to better things. I really felt that we took the game to Notts on Sunday and would like to see us have the same formation and approach. We played with Sills as the "lone striker" (with Thompson as support) a few times at the start of last season to grind-out the results but we were never negative and kept-up the pressure.
The only change I would make is to include Rendell to play alongside Sills at the expense of Benyon.
I know that Sammy Mc was furious last summer after we pinched Carlisle when he believed he had reached an agreement to sign him and said some less than complimentary things about this (not about Carlisle) after a match he played in at Exeter last season. Bring it on!

After that first day victory against Chesterfield I am sure that no one would have predicted we are still seeking our second home win in mid October! We really should be looking to average 1.25 points a game now so wins, particular at home are now an imperative! The squad has been chopped and changed as we struggle to adapt to life in league 2 with the hint of further quality to come. (Would anyone else like to see Poke come to us on a permanent contract in January?) We are now down to a core of players that can heck it at this level to the extent that any injury results in a call up to the youth team for bench warming duties. To some extent the formation utilised will determine the team selection but this doesn't always necessarily translate to the best XI in the squad! In respect of the Rendell or Benyon argument, leaving out the top goal scorer could be dangerous. Maybe playing all three strikers with Rendell in the hole is an additional attacking option? I think that there will be a few goals in this match with both teams needing a victory so looking forward to a highly entertaining afternoon.

The sun is shining brightly in the Bay and I'm sure today is the day we get back to winning ways. It does seem a long time ago when we did win our only home game and the fans sure need to leave after the game happy and pleased the team won at last.
So many times before we have got a result from a game where on paper it looked impossible, only to then lose a game it was felt we should have won, but as we all know thats what happens in football.
I really hope today that does not happen and while no game is ever going to be easy and no result guaranteed, as long as the team show the same fighting spirit they did in the second half against Notts, then we will stand a very good chance of taking all three points today.
There will be new players coming to the club soon, off that I'm sure, but today its down to the lads who gave their all in our last game and I have faith they will give their all once again in this game.
Would be so great to come home and write a match report about a game we won, but what ever happens I will write my report based only on the game.

Marvin Williams will not be playing today - picked up a knee ligament injury this week. His place on the bench is to be taken by Scott Taylor although the picture looks like that skinner winger Houdini (or something like that).
"The latest move underlines the vulnerability of United's current squad, should injuries or suspensions start to threaten it"
Thank you Miss Marple............

Ignore current form over the past few games at your peril....................Morecombe have only lost one of their last ten haven't they?

Ignore current form over the past few games at your peril....................Morecombe have only lost one of their last ten haven't they? I'm sure all those who like to gamble will always study form, but its not always the favorite that goes past the winning post first. If the team work hard and fights all over the pitch, they can earn the right to win this and any match. Its all about desire in the end and having the attitude that we won't be beaten and winning is all we will settle for.

This is more the sentiment I was responding to Dave, and the one which stated "we will bleddy murder' em"Of course we can beat them, any team is beatable in the same division; but their current form and central defensive personnel doesn't suggest it will be "easy" By all accounts there have been some extensive periods of time spent on the training ground this week which indicates to me that 3-5-2 will be persevered with and that intense concentration has been put on getting the back three to improve their decision making above the lamentable level they showed in the opening third of last Sunday's game. Without having first hand knowledge of the Morecombe team, I would suspect that a one for one change of Rendell for Benyon will see the same lineup as Notts leaving Carlisle and Stevens as formation changing options should the wing back option not prove successful.

Just in from football with Anthony..................trained Thursday night ; played a first half in a League game last night, another first half today and has a London FA Cup game tomorrow against legendary youth club Senrab ~ I'll write more about them tonight. So we're playing 4-3-3 against 3-5-2 ? Asking a lot of the midfield and I would expect just one of the full backs to be getting forward plenty of times to bolster numbers in the middle. TEAM: Poke. Mansell, Robertson, Ellis, Nicholson. Wroe, Hargreaves, Thompson. Benyon, Sills, Rendell Subs: Mills, Stevens, Charnock, Todd, Bevan , Taylor, Carlisle I would anticipate too, Rendell dropping in behind Sills and Benyon

Half time: 1-1 and Carlisle on for Rendell ~ surely 4-4-2 now and maybe more balance and familiarity for the team with Carlisle on the left.
