Nice picture of our very own Sven doing his groundsman duties, when we played against Notts County their crowd burst into a rendition of "Sven Goran Errikson", which was very funny indeed!

Seeing as the manager has spent time at the training grounds of Man Utd, Spurs and QPR in the last two weeks, maybe we can anticipate some drip down from that fact in the next month.  One game I know Bucks was at was the "reserve" team friendly played at Spurs Lodge last Tuesday September 7th between a Spurs team containing David Bentley and Jermaine Jenus amongst many youngsters; and QPR. Now like last season, Spurs will be looking to get some of these youngsters fixed up at lower divisional clubs such as they did with us ( Sam Cox and Adam Smith) and Yeovil Town where they had three more such prospects playing for Terry Skiverton. Part of Spurs insistence when such players are loaned out is that they periodically return to Spurs Lodge for assessment by their own coaching staff as to the players' development during those loan spells. QPR too have several other just such emerging young pro's whom Neil Warnock will be looking to farm out as part of their footballing education. Talking of Spurs Lodge, the luxurious complex in Chigwell, only opened by Tony Blair in 1996; is due to close in 2012 when Spurs move accross to their new facility in Enfield which is costing them £45 million to construct where there wil be 11 football pitches, medical and media centres a swimming pool and gym plus of course the obligatory under cover pitches too. What do these players from the top clubs feel when they first arrive at a place like The Racecourse as Cox and Smith did last season? I think it speaks volumes for their character and resilience that they so enthusiastically threw themselves into OUR cause last season and would like to think it has stood young Cox in particularly good stead for his eventual move to Barnet.................but then, you should see their new training centre at The Hive ~ it's simply magnificent! I think my own son's decision as to whether he is offered a contract by QPR will take a definitive move tomorrow evening when he plays in a match for them for the first time. He has left them in no doubt as to his skill and technique, but he has found the switch from what he is used to at Arsenal Development level a far more strictly structured and rigid affair than either of us imagined it would be, and getting on the same wavelength and gaining the confidence of his new squad mates has been rather harder than he imagined too. |

Good luck to the lad tomorrow, merse. Yes, Barnet's training facility is amazing for a Club of their size. A chosen venue of recent visiting national sides and a good choice at that.

Barnet's training facility is amazing for a Club of their size. A chosen venue of recent visiting national sides and a good choice at that..... The club has recently signed a contract with the FA for The Hive to be the venue for visiting national sides to use and prepare for games at Wembley Stadium and I am told that once the current agreement in which England use The Grove at Watford runs it's course; England too will use this facility. The Grove was all about pampering the players what with it's in house golf facilities, hotel comfort and "WiFi" connections and all the other periphery stuff that so appalled Fabio Capello when he came into the job and saw as so indicative of the lack of focus of our game at the top level. Barnet FC will also pursue the option they have (planning permission already granted) to build a new stadium within The Hive complex for themselves if Barnet Council do not allow them to either relocate within the borough or rebuild Underhill as to their submitted plans within the four year deadline they have set the council. The new floodlights and stand at Underhill have been specifically constructed so as to be removeable to any any new venue and as it stands the "Mini Stadium" already planned for The Hive complex will be rented out to Wealdstone FC as their new home soon. All this allows the Football Club to accrue the increased turnover and income they so badly require in order to be able to compete on a level playing field with other League 2 or League 1 clubs..............Conference even. Their Chairman, Tony Kleanthous; has already gone on record as saying that the Underhill matchday admission money does not even match the income that Chesterfield receive from their Vice Presidents facilities alone at their new stadium! I know of one League 1 player at a London club who is on 5K a week ~ and cannot even get into his team's starting eleven at the moment. Compare that to the average wages of many players at Dagenham & Redbridge and Barnet, and you soon realise the iniquities of the very smallest of clubs trying to compete in the same division as opponents who are able to pay out "silly money" to players who are little better than the hungry and ambitious young pro's these small clubs are giving opportunities to. |
