Well done to Paul Buckle and the lads! The table doesn't lie after 46 games and we're in the play-offs. On goal difference that is but actually with a point more, gained on the pitch that is. Meerkat is just being negative as always, and Buckle is useless and again very lucky. Yep folks, you heard it here. And we'll be on Sky Sports as well. Enjoy the ride!

[Last hurrah for the Grandstand ..... and extra dosh for the club .... It's all good ..... Peace I don't know the exact date but we find out sometime in the middle of this month as to whether we got the go ahead! With us in the play offs, probably a good thing that the project has been delayed!

A truly awful match and a woeful performance by everyone except Zebroski and possibly Tomlin but by the grace of Chesterfield we make into the play offs and engineer a situation by avoiding Accrington. Now it's Shrewsbury but we have to improve on todays performance by 99.9%. Just wait for the usual tw@ts to moan about Buckle getting rid of Nicky Wroe if the Shrews beat us over two legs!
We paid our dues to Chesterfield today by stopping off for Fish and Chips from the North Sea Fish Bar just down the road from the Plusnet stadium. Lots of very happy people in Chesterfield tonight.
On today's showing we should be clear fourth favourites to go up but play offs have a strange way of breaking teams. Well done to PB and the lads for getting there.
Lucky my arse. Over 46 games we deserve to be where we are.

We got there in the end but what a tortuous route and who would have thought that just four points from our last five games would have seen us through into the playoffs? Worryingly our form has tailed off and I think that maybe we have peaked and have probably gone as far as we can. Losing the experienced and capable Craig Stanley is the biggest blow but who knows? The Shrews will still be tasting that embarrassing 0-5 defeat here and will want to put that score right. We were immense that day just as they were very poor we were just very very good. Robinson had a point to prove but has struggled for form of late and just hasn't been able to influence matches in the way would all have hoped. Never the less his contribution along with our other loanees have all contributed to a very successful campaign and to be in this position now is just a bit of icing on the cake which will add, most importantly to our meagre finances. Whatever happens now is in the hands of the gods and as individual players what team turns up over the next two or perhaps three matches. To reach the playoffs in three of Paukl Buckles four seasons is an incredible achievement, I to questioned the wisdom of his appointment when we were at the lowest point in the clubs history but now I wonder just who else could have achieved what he has achieved and stuck loyally and relentlessly to the task with minuscule funds and resources whilst having to fend off insults and unfair criticism from certain individuals. He's done it his way and thank goodness he did.

Just got back from up North. Long slog, 9 hours driving, made very enjoyable by the company of the fact machine Jon, the prog rock maestro Chelston and son James. sometimes the football is incidental to the social event of a football weekend and today was no exception. Left home at 8.30am, collected Chelston and Jon at Tewkesbury at 10am, collected James in Warwick at 11am and arrived at Sheffield for 1pm. Great prog selection Chelston We persuaded Jon to lower his standards to consume a Macdonalds!! Following lunch we took Barton Downs advice on parking and got very close to the ground. A short stroll and we were enjoying a pint in The Greyhound surrounded by Torquay fans. Barton Downs joined us for a pint and Register made himself know to us as we left. Good to meet you Register and put yet another face to a name on this forum. We set of for the ground which I shall not attempt to describe as my son has already done it in this article he wrote this evening. wgpsports.wordpress.com/2011/05/07/stadium-review-don-valley-stadium/The game was not good and we did not play well but the atmosphere was electric with ears pressed to radios and constantly updating mobile phone devices. On the way back we had a meal in the Wetherspoons just down the road from James' digs. There was nearly a major incident when Jon's all day breakfast had an egg seepage and nearly contacted the bean juice. He hastily erected a sausage barrier which he gained experience of at Torquay Boys Grammar School. Chelston has the photos for the morning ;D After dropping Jon and Chelston off back at Tewkesbury, I drove home reflecting on a good day but a lucky escape. Jon do you still think my writing style is better suited to Twitter

What a weird, tense and all round unpleasant afternoon!...........until about 16:50 when confirmation that Gillingham had lost came through. Played in a weird stadium in a horrible area. I don't think I will watch another football match at the Don Valley - whatever the circumstances. I don't think the players knew quite what to do at the end - We had been thoroughly outplayed and beaten yet made the Play Offs. It was certainly strange for us fans.
We looked tense, nervy and both tactically and technically poor today and were deservedly beaten by a much better team. It seemed for long periods like Rotherham had an extra couple of players than us - they looked solid all over the park and very well organised. We were so poor we made them look like Brazil. We were one down before we had chance to settle and never recovered. For the first, we had several chances to clear the danger then fell asleep with our marking. Still no real danger until Bevs failed to hold a weak, but deflected ball in to the goalmouth and the rebound was slammed home. Sadly, it was the Bevs at Burton that turned up today rather than the one who played against Chesterfield.
Poor old Lee Mansell had a torrid time at right back and got skinned time and time again. From one of these Rotherham should have gone further ahead, but the ball flashed across the goal and within about 10 seconds we were level with a fantastic breakaway goal. Robinson took the ball then fed Zebs with a perfectly weighted pass and Zebs put it across the keeper with an excellent (and very un Zebs like) left footed finish. To go in at HT level would have been massive, but within a matter of minutes were behind again. Another sloppy piece of work from Bevan led to a corner from which we decided not to bother marking anyone. Free header into the six yard box which was shot into our net. Absolutely shambolic defending.
Apparently they scored a third in the second half - I couldn't see cos it was too far away and my attention was more focused on updates from the other games. Judging from the rest of the match I imagine it was the result of Rotherham wanting the ball more and slack defending from TUFC. We had one or two chances to get back into it - Zebs should have done better with two clear cut chances, but fluffed them. He appealed for a penalty for one of them, but the challenge only came about as he had dawdled. For a strong looking fella he is going down a little too easily at times. We saw the best and worst of him today - tireless running and chasing down of lost causes and a cracking finish. but then wasteful in front of goal.
They might as well of put SKY Sports on a big screen during the second half. The TUFC match was so irrelevant to whether or not we would make the Play Offs. We were simply never in it from the off. I'm not sure whether the 4-5-1 formation sent the players out with the wrong mindset, but I cannot describe just how awful. all over the pitch we were. Other than the excellent goal we scored I can't think of anything positive that comes from the match (other than the obvious!) . On the other hand there must be several massive issues which we need to consider for next week: 1. What is going on with Bevs? 2. Mansell has been skinned at will throughout the last few matches - particularly today and at Burton 3. Oastler and Lathrope looked ineffective in the middle today, but who else is there to replace Stanley - my god did we miss him today. 4 O'Kane and Robinson are very, very skillful players, but they have been ineffective during the run-in. When Kee came onto today he too was dreadful.
Having seen us about 15 times this season, I can't believe that we are in the Play Offs. That said, the league table doesn't lie and we are the seventh best team in a pretty poor league two. Well done to PB, the board and the players. A terrific achievement and way beyond my expectations. I'd prefer to play Shrewsbury and Saturday is far better for the first leg than the dreadful 18:30 kick off on a Sunday for the other Play Off match - when are the Football authorities going to stop dicking football fans around with these kind of kick offs?

I was going to do a match report, but no need to now. Enzo has nailed it. I absolutely agree with everything he said.
Particularly liked the bit about Sky sports news. No one had any interest in our game, it was that bad, so why not just stick it up on the big screen as it was evident very early on our interests laid elsewhere.

We have in reality little chance against Shrewsbury but I would not put it past Buckle to fluke a result - on a big pitch you would have to fancy us against Accrington/Stevenage. In reality though we are not going any futher. Did you watch any of our games against Shrewsbury or Accrington?? Accrington was the one team I would want to avoid, especially at their ground. They also have the best current form out of any of the Play offs teams. We were unlucky not to beat Shrewsbury at their ground and we all know what happened at our place, so out of all 4 teams I would rather play Shrewsbury, in fact that was pretty much the only good thing to come out of today. However, if we play like we did today, then I will agree that we are not going any further. But it will be different come Saturday.

If ever the stats didn't give a true picture of a game;
Rotherham Torquay
Possesion: 49% 51% Shots On Target: 7 6 Shots Off Target: 7 7 Corners: 7 4 Fouls: 18 11
If you didn't know better you would think we were in there with a shout, rather than getting the battering we got.

stubarb or is it rhubab what country yokels yourpostings show youto be. the don valley stadium was designed by top usa architects not stalinist momoblockers. it was not ment to satisfy a few country yokels but a more sophisticated people. as for the near proximity of the stadium it sits bythe edge of of a once great steel making area now sadly in great decline but just part of a vast great city of sheffield. hope you dont return.

Was my birthday so my missus agreed to go to Sheffield with me and the kids, wish I'd stayed with them in Meadowhall checking the scores as I spent all of the 2nd half watching the blackberry.
On the way back I was at Trowell services and the team coach pulled up. I had a quick chat with Paul Buckle who's always pretty approachable and courteous as well as thanking me for making the trip.
He seemed delighted about the achievement of getting in the play offs and brushed off the defeat and was very annoyed about the state of the Rotherham pitch.
I think the biggest challenge he's got over the coming days is giving the players the confidence that they can go on and win the play offs. It's a real plus that we're playing a team who these players have already beaten handily not long ago.

Not the best match to celebrate your birthday with but I'm sure what the gulls have achieved over the whole season made up for it!
