Best team won.

As Chelston says, best team won on the day. First half we were beaten to just about every ball. We just couldnt get any possession as their midfield were just too strong for us and seemingly first to every ball. Formation change to 4-3-3 in the second half did improve things with Mansell and Lathrope doing most of the donkey work and Eunan roaming side to side to try and force the attack. The goal came from a game of pinball in their box which pinged out to Mansell who lashed it into the net. I thought Atieno had the ball in the net shortly afterwards but it was only the side netting Their defence was solid pretty much all game whilst Barnett and Thomas caused our back 4 all sorts of problems. Both had pace to burn (and won more headers than they should have) which seemed to be the key to getting behind the defence, something we were sadly lacking in.

Just back - early it was totally pointless staying for added time and came home. Were we poor or were they good? Both I would suggest we were appallingly bad in the first half particularly and didn't have a single effort on goal while they could have gone in 4 or 5 up and it was a minor miracle that wasn't the case. We started the game in slow motion mode while they were at it from the off and kept pumping balls into our box which e just didn't have a clue how to deal with and won very little in that department all afternoon. Crawley were patient, passed the ball to each other where as we just hoofed it clear, usually right to one of their players to start off more attacks for long periods. We looked in all honesty like the former Blue Square side and them the established league one side. It just shows what a bit money can do if spent wisely but that in itself doesn't tell the full story, we just failed to compete for log periods especially at the start of the match which sets the pattern and is unforgivable imho. We allowed them space to create and pass, and often left players unmarked, We just made a relatively simple job of beating us even easier we just weren't up for it. In every department and they were vastly superior. The second half saw the introduction of Billy Kee who has been childishly slated all week on the other forum for his size and Dion Lathrope. They replaced two very ordinary players in Morris and McPhee. Morris was particularly disappointing for me I thought he had a bit of quality about him but I'm beginning to have my doubts after another poor contribution.Mc Phee was just McPhee - ordinary just as we all expected and just doesnt have it in him to make his mark on a game, at the moment any way. The subs made an immediate and much needed impact Kee looked sharp and ready to pose a few questions though with little support at times. Just as we looked to up our game they went right up the other end and killed the game dead. We got a scrappy one back through top scorer Mansell, now who would have bet in that? but in reality the damage was done in the first ten minutes when we let them dictate how the match would be played. Some worrying performances today - Sahh again completely dominated in the air, Morris who was totally ineffective and Eunan who for all the hype still has an awful lot to learn. We we were very weak in midfield. Watched the match as usual from the Popside with some old guy with disgusting rotten teeth and halitosis breath right behind me but funniest thing I heard in the first half was a shout of "STEVENS YOU thingy" and he wasn't even on the pitch. Yep Danny sorry mate it was ll your fault again.

Had a great afternoon watching amateur football. Two sucessive promotions and a hard fought 2-1 win with an absolutely outstanding peformance from the opposition goalkeeper. didn't even listem to the Torquay score - didn't need to. Lets be brutally honest - if anyone said that we would have seven points from the first four games I would have snatched their hand off. I have made a handsome profit today betting on Crawley to beat us. The result was a foregone conclusion. Just glad that I have decided at long last to give up watching Torquay United because it is completely pointless. What is the point of stumping up money to watch no hopers like Mcphee. He couldn't play football when he was here before and the farcical notion that he has now developed into a footballer - well it is just ridiculous. Pehaps Ling could ditch another no hoper in Saah and replace him with a decent defender in Mark Ellis. Lets hope Plymouth and Hereford continue as they are as this might somehow enable us to stay in this league. You cannot keep playing crap and winning games - your luck will soon run out as it did today. And as it was against the two most obnixious cxnts in football makes me happy that i was not there to witness it.

first sight of us in a league match today, and we were frighteningly poor, apart from 3 or less players for us up to anything constructive. We were outclassed from the first whistle and left for dead by half time.It improved after there third goal went in,but not much, kee came on and gave it a go.otherwise poor fayre. On this performance crawley will get promoted, and ourselves who knows? its the lack of fight today that niggled me,too many not up for dying for the cause, saah and mcphee particularly were god damned awful, mcphee for me hasnt improved one bit since his last time at the club. All in all a poort poor day at the office, lingy will not be a happy man,if there are players here who cant be bothered then get rid of them,we expect and demand better than this, twice now crawley have turned us over, but they were vastly improved from last time,we seem to have had a decline in quality at present, come on lingy sort em out.

It irks me to say it but I doubt we'll see a better league 2 side than Crawley at Plainmoor this season. They were strong in every department and with our own inept first half performance we were lucky not go in at half time 3 or 4 down. I estimate they had as many as 10 shots in the first 15 minutes. Evans has clearly spent wisely to build a physically strong side and got them playing to their strengths.
Maybe it was something to do with the early goal but there was a distinctly subdued atmosphere around the ground all afternoon. It was as if there was an expectation that we were going to lose and the team did little to lift the gloom. Even the presence of our two friends on the away bench prompted little more than the occasional and un-original "You fat b*****d".
If nothing else the second half showed that Ling has a Plan B. Dispensing with the so called wingers and going 4-3-3 with O'Kane given a roving role in front of Manse & Lathrope (who I thought played well). I also think that Atieno showed again why he rightly gets the nod ahead of Billy. He chased everything, was strong in the air and came closer than anyone to scoring apart from Manse who knew little about his goal as a clearance rebounded off his back in to the net.
Perhaps its as well to have this game out of the way and learn from defeat as we move on to a clearly winable game at D&R next week.
Comedy moment of the day came on the way home. Radio Devon excelled themselves again when they followed the results by announcing that we were still 4th in the table. Infact they read out all the positions and points totals for league 1 & 2 based on the tables BEFORE today's games! Amateur beyond belief!
