Fair result; okay performance. Happy to settle for that. Started brightly but increasingly on the back foot as the first half wore on. And, with Easton going off, I was content with no goals at half-time. Chesterfield had missed at least one very good chance.
Feared the worst when we went a goal down and half-expected Chesterfield to push on. But we stepped up from our flatness and looked a rather better team from there on. That man Howe again - what an enjoyable player to watch. Well done Tom Cruise for stepping in to that midfield role as effectively third choice. Macklin did okay until, probably inevitably, being replaced by Thompson. Bodin a little disappointing again but everyone else was sound. Even if the matches aren't scintillating I'm always confident of us being able to get something off any team in this league. Too many draws perhaps, at home anyway, but one win, three draws and one defeat from my five away games so far isn't bad. Next stop for me will be Bristol Rovers in three weeks time.
One or two worrying stories about the extent of Ian Mortis's injury. If true, we will miss him.
As for meeting the old friend from student days, he reminded me that he'd last seen Torquay play at Huddersfield in 1976/77. He even remembered our scorer. Can you? A not insignificant personality in our history I hasten to add.

Dad texted me to say he's heard Morris has ruptured his achilles. If so that's him out for a long time. With Craig and Easton gone, it's bloody lucky Lathrope's coming back
Can't say I didn't expect this at the start of this season, though. All this bollocks about Davey being some kind of magician - he might be a good physio, but we were just lucky last year and we're not this year. And now we don't have the squad to cope. That's why we're not going to get promoted

From a CFC point of view that was dreadful. If you'd have been as smart of the ball as I expected around the box you'd have won that game.
I think your problems probably mirror ours - an inabilty to make the most of chances.

You may be right James. We might not get promoted. But nor will another nineteen teams in this division. I don't necessarily see promotion alone as the yardstick. My starting point is to hope we will be sound and competitive. But we may approach the point where we need to "top up" our resources to remain so.
I know nothing of physiotherapy nor of Damien Davey's abilities. We're told he is good at his job and I've absolutely no reason to doubt this. But his job title is "physiotherapist" rather than "miracle worker". If he helps a player regain his fitness as quickly as other physios in this division, that's good enough for me. If he does it more quickly and more competently - if that's even measurable - that's brilliant. But I don't expect him to prevent accidental injuries or produce miracle cures like a rabbit out of the hat. Nor, of course, instantly rectify long-standing injuries in players we sign. Every player is a risk and a gamble; some more than others. If Damien Davey has the professional expertise to reduce a risk in a player from, say, 50% to 40% - if it even works like that - then it's up to the manager to decide if that's a risk worth taking. Indeed I would imagine it's those little percentage points that defines a physio's worth.

did i see something about a kilt wearing fan blowing a whistle at the game today,wheres it gone? commentary mention whistle blowing during the game,they reckoned we were through on goal on one occasion when the phantom raspberry blower let rip

It's on the John Terry thread. Very audible to us and, from what loyalgull says, it was heard elsewhere in the ground.
Advice to the stewards: "you can't miss him, he's wearing a kilt".
Interestingly the stewards were slow to recognise the seriousness of what had happened. That's probably because it's so unusual. By contrast I seem to recall more of this type of thing when I was a kid. I remember my dad explaining the heinousness of such behaviour to me at an early age.
