Yes 'flying gull', I'll join in that welcome ! One for today :- The 'Government Vaccines Taskforce' - assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/944308/VTF_Interim_report_-_5th_publication.pdf". . . the VTF has provided funding to accelerate and expand the UK’s ability to manufacture a range of vaccines at three sites VMIC (Harwell); CGTC (Braintree); Valneva (Livingston). These sites will now form the core UK vaccine manufacturing capability for the future." " Harwell - “What we didn't want to do was make a facility that would be great for making the AstraZeneca vaccine, for example, but then next year a different MERS [Middle East Respiratory Syndrome] or SARS [Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome] comes along.” he added. “That's a different type of platform and a different vaccine. So we've got to have a flexible facility that is able to make in an emergency a large amount of doses from different types of processes.” " www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/01/16/britain-will-able-vaccinate-nation-against-new-covid-strains/Braintree - "The CGT Catapult Manufacturing Innovation Centre, due to become fully operational by December 2021, is being developed following a £100m commitment by the Government to support the national effort to manufacture millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine, become an innovation centre for cell and gene therapies supporting the growth of this expanding industry, continue to promote innovation and develop technology transfer expertise for vaccines and large-scale cell and gene therapy manufacture." ct.catapult.org.uk/how-we-work/our-facilities/manufacturing-innovation-centre-braintree-ukLivingston - "Valneva is just ‘days away’ from kick-starting manufacture of its jab on British soil. Britain has secured supply of 60m doses at a cost of €470 million (£418 million). French-headquartered firm’s jab is second-largest Covid jab ordered by Govt. It will furnish Britain with 60 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9155273/French-drugs-firm-days-away-making-60million-doses-Britains-FOURTH-coronavirus-vaccine.htmlIMHO this is highly impressive and just this once - well done the UK Govt ! Three hopefully 'State of the Art' facilities to put the UK at the crest of the vaccine wave ? We'll see ! We can really be hopeful that one day, there'll be enough vaccine for EVERYBODY LOL.

Yes, a different piece of the puzzle and not part of the NHS. The VMIC will be a collaborative effort with academia and small or medium enterprises so bringing together the relevant know how and skill sets in the country - link

I've got to admit my confidence in the vaccine programme has been knocked. Now don't get me wrong, I am certainly not an anti-vaxxer and believe the pandemic is a real threat. As someone who is classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (due to cancer treatment) I placed a lot of hope in the vaccines as they were being developed but two things have knocked my confidence in them: 1) the Oxford vaccine only seems to be effective in 62% of cases. 2) the delaying of the second booster jab until after 3 months when their effectiveness was originally tested on the basis that the booster would be received after 3 weeks. This leaves me feeling that the vaccination program may end up as one of those half arsed botched schemes that numerous governments of all colours participate in.

If it helps, none of the 38% needed to be hospitalised. The Oxford vaccine was always licensed to have a second jab between four and 12 weeks so government has pushed this out towards the limit for reasons outlined previously.

I wouldnt be surprised if that 12 weeks comes in abit as supplys come online in the later part of the summer.

I would agree with that, not just as more supplies become available but also as those more vulnerable categories are ticked off then there isn’t such a rush to get that first jab in for lower risk groups.

Hi, new here and reading with amusement the debate that is going on and pleased it is a debate. I have seen it mentiomed there is just rambling on the 'kids site' which have shift far to the right to the point that usernames are edited and posts in oppersition to what is there are removed. Its good to see debate can still be had on the internet Just had a look at the kiddies and Louis has taken down all the covid and conspiracy related threads, seems he didn't realise that most of the content was related to the bitchute platform which hosts extremist right wing material.

He should have. I told him plenty of times along with his administrators changing user names and was called an arrogant arse for the trouble Whats more given that one of the main contributors was one of his administrators and still is actions speak louder then words

Flying Gull - "They maybe state of the art but will there be any staff like the nightingale hospitals?".
Staffing shouldn't be a problem as these are industrial/scientific plants for manufacture, thus not requiring scarce resources of ICU specialists, Doctors and Nurses. The more likely restraint on production will be availability of raw materials but no doubt that is being tackled in advance.

RJD / Jerry / Pete. In the Oxford/AZ trial, as RJD said, no one in the 38% that became infected required hospitalisation. So the vaccine was 100% effective in preventing hospitalisations - that's brilliant. When the second dose was put back to 3 months, the proposition was that the 62% had been measured in the first few weeks but had developed afterwards to 90%, not the 95% efficacy of two doses. But the second dose is still essential to give longer lasting immunity. This BBC R4 program, 'More or less', elaborates on this point at 9 mins 50 secs - www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000r4t9

The J & J vaccine would give the UK's efforts a nice boost! "The phase 1/2a interim analysis showed that the Company’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate induced an immune response and was generally well-tolerated across all study participants. Data demonstrated that, after a single vaccination, neutralising antibodies against COVID-19 were detected in over 90% of study participants at day 29 and 100% of participants aged 18-55 years at day 57. These neutralising antibodies remained stable through day 71, currently the latest timepoint available in this ongoing study. pharmaphorum.com/news/early-data-backs-jjs-single-shot-coronavirus-vaccine-phase-3-results-due-soon/?Lets hope the study completes soon with a 5 star rating - I think I read that the UK have an early order for 30 million doses being manufactured by Janssen in Belgium. 30 million one shot vaccines will make a difference to the UK - but it's fingers crossed and that's for sure !
