Thanks for those kind remarks, Rjdgull. I'm just wondering where this match ranks in the grand scheme of things comparing it to other important matches in Torquay United's history ? The Crewe and Barnet great escapes, the promotion at Southend are obvious other examples that have defined Torquay's destiny. Perhaps Jon would be best to give his opinion on this point. This match is at least as important as them I would say. I feel if we got promotion this season, now with the excellent consortium, we could gain real momentum. It might be pushing it to do an Exeter, but I think we would give a good account of ourselves in league 2. Lose and next season's BSP looks even more difficult and we could be there for a long time. Sadly it looks unlikely I will be at Wembley next week. This might be a good omen. I have missed other biggies like Southend and Barnet when we were successful. Our Wembley record isn't great to date and I've seen them all so far. Saying that, I've feel I've done my bit for the club in recent weeks by buying my first ever season ticket, and having my son's 10th birthday party at TUFC. My finances are therefore a little tight. I just hope more people will do their bit for the club in the Torbay area, however small. It's the least the club deserves. Swangull, just looking at your sentence of where this game ranks, to me its as big as any game we have been in. To be challenging for promotion two for consecutive season is a minor miracle in itself to do it three seasons in a row would be quite miraculous. With the quality of the opposition ever improving and the percentage of of ex established league clubs ever increasing the task will become more and more difficult as seasons pass. The Conference table will look like an old football league one next season and the competition for that elusive single automatic spot will be even greater. My main concern is that if we do happen to miss out after so much effort over the last two seasons the core of the squad will break up and we will do a York or Oxford and have to start to build again from the bottom up.

As per my previous thread, this is the biggest game in the clubs history bar none. No fannying about, we have to win to be in the league next season, this has never happened before. Wake up everybody, this is serious stuff. Forget Wembley, the day out, it is immaterial. All that matters is that Torquay United prevail, nothing else. On the .com site we even have someone saying is it worth winning because we would be in Div 2 obscurity. Can you believe that. The league, thats what it is all about. Who gives a toss about the non league play offs, the FA trophy. Give me 22nd in League 2 and a FA Cup first round exit any day rather than see my beloved team trot out at the Dripping Pan and other sh*thole grounds. Its demeaning and a bloody disgrace and the sooner we are back in the league the better.

Whilst I agree with your call to arms and passion Sam, I think the point about possible "League 2 Obscurity" has a validity to it, although not for a minute would I question the need and the worth of winning on Sunday. For me, the positives to take out of our arrival in the BSP are the extensive coverage of the NLP and Setanta and believe me; the latter HAS raised the profile of our club so much you wouldn't appreciate it unless you lived and worked as I do far, far away where the club's only previous and to me irritating claim to prominence was as being "the club that Helen Chamberlain supports"The lack of profile that the Football League has achieved for the lower two divisions of their competition is shameful when set aside the BSP/Setanta link up and something that urgently needs addressing at the earliest opportunity. I don't think the point about the positivity and focusing of minds should be missed for a minute though Sam, but if the ambiance of the Dripping Pan was not to your liking; I wouldn't get too excited about visiting Accrington, Macclesfield or the Don Valley Stadium if I were you!

Re "League 2 obscurity", at least 'The Championship' on ITV covers ALL league clubs. BSP is only covered by Setanta if you have it or if you can get to a pub which has it (and it doesn't clash with Chelsea etc on Sky !)

Out of interest is anybody not drinking in The Green Man on Sunday afternoon? I hope they've got someone ready to change the barrels at regular intervals and its dry enough to use the super beer garden - could be a bit of a squash!

I don't know the name of the place but we'll probably be in the same place as last year. We had dinner in Macdonalds, near the station and then went to the nearest pub across the road. we went through the pub and drank in the marquee out the back with big screens.
It was very busy, very expensive and the service was slow but it was convenient

Colin Lee's perspective (now on the Official Site) makes interesting and confidence boosting reading for me at least...................................... "On Sunday we have to go to Wembley and win. It isn't about turning up on Sunday and parading around the ground, it is about winning and if you can get that through to everyone at the football club, get that through to the players particular; that this is not a showcase it is a chance to win a football match.
"I have to say that it is not just the players but the staff who are preparing differently for this than we did for the F.A. Trophy, it was like going to a wedding last year; it was over the top to be honest....................................."My thoughts exactly and I'm pleased to see that on here generally there is a sensible and calm approach as the day gets closer, which is in direct contrast to the children on another site where you would think that with their endless one liners and trivial chit chat about what to wear, what to eat, how many times they've farted this week and now all we need is one admitting to have "followed through" .......................... hopefully it won't be on YOUR Travel Club coach on the way to Wembley! If we win it will be a huge boost to all concerned and a real step in the long and committed road to re-establishing OUR club to being a complete and proper professional football club, one that the whole community can be rightly proud of. If we lose, then it won't be the end of the world; there won't be the need to thrash around wildly and call for destruction of all the foundations that have been put in place so that we resemble a game of Snakes and Ladders. It will merely be that we were just ONE game from realising OUR shared ambition to return to the Football League, and that we are strong and in good condition to prepare to go one better next season. If it's at all possible, RELAX about the oncoming date with destiny. Try at all costs NOT to transmit any feelings of panic, loss of control or fear of defeat from the seats to those on the pitch; and have confidence in the manager and players to go out and do the business as they have on so many occasions in the past two years!

Sorry merse but i'm bricking it!! As for having confidence in the manager.......nope! His track record in big games is poor. He is due to win one soon tho, even a blind squirrel in the dark will trip over a nut eventually. Let's hope it's sunday.
I have confidence in the players to win this one. They are certainly good enough and with a better manager would have achieved auto promotion at a canter. So, i'm as nervous as hell about this game.

Well the day gets closer and someone somewhere has let Alpine and Dave out the cage again!!! I thought they had been far too quiet recently. As Merse's post rightly says lets just hope sunday goes the way we all want it. However if it goes against our wishes lets just re-group and come back stronger. However I do believe the "Muppets" are sharpening pens and getting ready .....I hope you guys are disapointed Sunday!!!!!

Totally agree, you can hear the sound of clicking fingers as they lie in wait ready to pounce, even if we do win. After all, we should have done it last season.

Sharpening nothing mate. As for being disappointed, i assume you mean if we lose. That doesn't even come close. Of course if you mean being disappointed if we win, then you truely have to be the village idiot of TFF. I think you've pipped aussie to the title.
