Really a wonderful result tonight with Grimsby losing. Tomorrows match is a massive opportunity for us and having let so many chances slip we really have to grasp the nettle. Looks like I may be missing my first home match of the season and what a time to miss it as well.

Oh you bugger! How do i know what end? You're the one in the know when it comes to bounce diversion. calculate the sun angle, anticipate the keeper and triangulate his movement. Oz ffs you're the expert! Do it at both ends, however a last minute guess would be the family stand!! Doh, bloody australians always upside down! I suppose it would depend on who won the toss mate and whether they chose to kick towards the cow shed or the family stand! Cow shed - family stand er same end Oz...

Probably only the same end Petef for us old buggers who spent our formative supporting years in that rickety and dangerous asbestos built structure behind the goal at the Ellacombe end which was 'the' place to be before the mini stand was built. All that banging against that asbestos structure when we scored a goal (no danger of that being necessary these days!) has surely given us all unknown health problems. Worth it though. Bloody good team us was then!!

So, todays game becomes even more vital thanks to our ex-gulls. Buckles track record in important games is poor. He did win the playoff final tho. This game is probably the most important game since then. I hope he has done his job and continues on to the 3 points. We'll see.
C'mon boys, a win and we can at least have a breather til monday.

Nothing to worry about on that score Stefano ~ it was wooden framed and infilled with corrugated iron, not asbestos. The asbestos was to be found on the roof and back infill of the Popside stand. I think the most likely lasting effect us Cowshedders would have got was pneumocylicosis from all that red earth we disturbed by shuffling our feet on the earthen infill between the wooden railway sleepers to make ruddy great clouds like San Siro flares when we wanted to drive any opposition fans who had been silly enough to go in there out of our territory! Mind you tetanus was a possibility whenever the iron sheets at the back parted under pressure and we went piling out into the nettles behind..................ouch! What a wonderful old structure!

I do appologize, being relatively new ( 18 years ) to Plainmoor I was under the impression that the Cow shed was the old away end, like it matters anyway you knew what I meant!

Can't make the game today so will be following on Gullsworld.
Shrewsbury's form is very poor, but I don't think that will have an impact on the game. It is going to be extremely tough, even if historically we have managed to pull-off some unlikely victories against them when we were in big trouble of relegation. Where's Duane Darby's backside when you need it (ooh err!)?!
Given that I think we are unlikely to yield any points from the Northampton and Rochdale games this represents our best chance to get some points between us and Grimsby after their defeat last night. However, football isn't always like that and perhaps we'll get beaten today by the classic late goal and then scrape a win at Northampton on Monday!

.....from all that red earth we disturbed by shuffling our feet on the earthen infill between the wooden railway sleepers to make ruddy great clouds like San Siro flares.. Ah the San Siro. My favourite foreign stadium and the one I have visited the most, over thirty times now. Just the mention of it sends a cold shiver down my spine and brings on a strange homesick type feeling for my beloved Italy I don't think you can beat the atmosphere there on a big Champions League night or a top Serie A game with Inter or Milan against the likes of Juventus, Fiorentina, or Roma. Like all big stadiums though it is not as good when less than half full for Coppa Italia or even EUFA Cup games. I was lucky having the San Siro so close in the four years I worked in Italy, and as it was part of my job to escort tourists in from the ski resort of Sestriere I always got in free .... would have willingly paid but in these dire economic times you have to take what is going. Another place I used to go was to Turin for Juventus and the Stadio delle Alpi was the scene of my most memorable game during my four years there, a 2-0 win after extra time for Juventus over the galacticos of Real Madrid (Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul, Beckham, Roberto Carlos, Figo, and Owen on as a sub) in the 2004/2005 Champions League. Real Madrid held a 1-0 lead from the first leg, but a 75th minute goal from Trezeguet (which saw me win the coach sweepstake for the correct minute of the first goal!) took it to extra time, and as we prepared for the drama of penalties Zalayeta struck in the 115th minute and Ronaldo got sent off. I did not get to Turin as often as the San Siro as during my time in Italy Juventus managed to get caught for their many years of corruption and got relegated to Serie B, as well as moving to the smaller Stadio Olimpico, so the more attractive games were then always in Milan. Happy memories ..... and strange bizarre ones of regularly texting home from the San Siro to check on how the Gulls were faring in the Conference!

Great to see Kevin Nicholson back in the side, after his performance against Lincoln, but very disappointing to see that Adam Smith, a natural full back, has been dropped with Robertson, a centre back, in his place.
I was struck by the manager's comments during the week about Smith and Thomson, who again is not even in the squad.
He was reported as saying:
"Sometimes with the younger boys, if they're not involved we let them go back to their clubs and train," Buckle explained. "We've done it with young Adam Smith too. We have to rotate the younger players — their bodies aren't used to playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday. "We've chosen to let Jake go back to freshen him up, and he's ready and waiting when we need him."
What an absolute load of nonsense !! These are nineteen and twenty year old players, not sixteen year olds, who proved earlier in the season that they could play in a number of consecutive games, and play really well to boot.
There is clearly some issue in Mr Buckle's mind as far as JT is concerned, and I shall be very surprised if we see him again this season. What an abominable waste of his talent.

Team: (4-4-2) Bevan Robertson, Ellis, Branston, Nicholson Carayol, Mansell, Wroe, Zebroski Benyon, Rendell Subs: Poke, Smith, Charnock, Rowe-Turner, Thmpson, Stevens, O'KaneThe only issue I can see with leaving Smith out in favour of Robertson is to get some height into the defence ~ only Ellis otherwise being over six foot tall. Like it or not this is an important factor especially in the level of football we play in where goals from re-starts are so prevailant. The only possible player he could have left out of that squad for Thomson would be Stevens would it not? I don't see why people have to see "issues" with every team that the manager picks, a team has to be picked from more people than there are room for.....................it's the same at every club is it not? Two games a week at this stage of the season does need deep seated physical conditioning that was edtablished early in the campaign, teenaged bodies do not have the same resilience to adult bodies that is a FACT and again the programme the manager is following is little different than that followed by most of his contemporaries around the country. Would you have it that he was "over using" some of these youngsters so that they break down eventually as in the case of Ces Fabrigas at Arsenal who has hardly had a break all season?

He has been in three of the last nine match squads and got on the pitch once !!
