Well I enjoyed the opening game and am now looking forward to an equally tasty dessert this evening. France are probably most peoples favourites for this game but I am hoping they get their comeuppance for that blatant piece of Thierry Henry cheating against the Irish, and Uruguay could be just the team to do it. Although once again they just missed out on an automatic qualification and had to qualify via a play off against Costa Rica, they have some exciting players including Luis Suarez (Ajax), Cristian Rodriguez (Porto), and Diego Forlan (Atletico Madrid).
Au revoir France (I hope!) although I think it will be a tight game and a 0-0 draw if the ball behaves itself! ;D

That would be the same Forlan that ripped up a couple of English Prem clubs and dumped them out of the Champions League wouldn`t it?

Just back from the fan park in Soweto - absolutely incredible day in the sun. Travelled down with two friends - managed to get an entire local bus singing old anti-apartheid struggle songs, to the entertainment of the locals and the Mexican fans on their way to the game. Then on to the fan park where the first hour was spent playing football with a bunch of Americans and guys from the township. Lots of banter, pap and chicken, beer and then some live music and on to the game. When Bafana took the lead the entire park - somewhere around 40,000 people went crazy. Then the equaliser went in and silence descended. Still, a good result and an incredibly well run and organised fan fest. A truly memorable day and a wonderful start to the World Cup.
Looking forward to England's game tomorrow - plans are for a few beers in a shebeen - wearing a trusty TUF shirt - in the inner city with some of the Kaizer Chiefs fans I know.

Although I'm still recovering from having a Vuvuzela blown into my ears at full volume last night, I've just watched South Korea v Greece and what a contrast between two sides. Whilst the Greeks, under their long serving manager looked "flat", uninspired and of poor technique; South Korea on the other hand were their usual ebulient selves, kept great shape, ran tirelessly off the ball for one another and displayed almost perfect touch and technique........................not an easy side to play against and sure to acquit themselves well I feel. France last night were dreadful too, almost as bad as the Greeks whilst Uruguay were a typical "middling" South American offering and unlikely to progress far ~ a long way short of the top of the South American scene like Brazil and Argentina. South Africa? They don't convice me and all that singing and dancing nonsense in the tunnel pre-match is total anathaema to me Mexico showed great technique, and although I only saw the first half; I thought they looked quite efficient and of good set up and shape. Now for the really interesting stuff for me, the neighbours are just arriving for a very noisy support of Nigeria against Argentina and the half time refreshments look delicious....................Olivia's earnestly keeping her World Cup Wall Chart up to date but wants to record every goal as it goes in; and then it's our turn tonight. I can't wait, but Anthony's showing total indifference to it all having been to cinema and swimming this morning and now sharpening his skills up in the cage outside in preparation for tomorrow's tournament ~ nothing changes for him, he's no TV spectator!

I concur with your comments. France showed absolutely nothing last night in attack. I did think they might score after Uruguay were reduced to 10 men but Domenech seems to enjoy stunting his team's ability to create and attack. The substitute centre forward Gignac from Toulouse looked useful but he's hardly a winger. As you say Uruguay looked technically good but lack a bit of extra class. South Korea ran the legs off a very poor Greek team. Not a good start for Nigeria though in this one... Vuvuzelas............They sound they make reminds me a bit Of Espana 82. All we need now is Radio-Tele Commentary. Plenty of England flags to be seen in West London today. There were quite a few dual England and Portugal flag displays in Kensal Rise and a few Brazilian flags near Willesden Junction but the failure to qualify for Poland and Turkey have robbed my part of London of some World Cup Fever.

One thing that's annoying me watching these World Cup games on T.V. Have you noticed how they keep on showing replays of incidents often in slow motion. I don't mind replays but NOT at a cost of keep missing parts of the play. They're going to miss a goal at this rate ! I don't know who is doing the T.V. editing, I assume it's South African's ? We certainly do a lot better in this country and appreciate viewers want to watch the game !

Couldn't agree more Swangull, and whilst some of camerawork is of excellent quality - and some of the slow motion pictures actually stunning - I'd rather see no replays than miss the action. Maybe the TV companies could have a word about this instead of moaning about vevuzelas.

They've been over doing the super slo-mo replays at the Canadian Grand Prix this afternoon. Couldn't agree more Swangull, and whilst some of camerawork is of excellent quality - and some of the slow motion pictures actually stunning - I'd rather see no replays than miss the action. Can`t believe that Mexican Ref sent Tim Cahill off for pulling out of a tackle, shortly after that other tackles that weren`t pulled out of were n`t even given a yellow for! That Mexican Ref just wrecked our World Cup all because he feels centre stage belongs to him, the commentators for the game refered to his appauling over use of the red card. It looked almost as if the officials were delibrately hamming it up with some of their over enthusiastic, blatantly rehersed activities. Saying that though I think the Germans are going to be very hard for anyone beat!

Can`t believe that Mexican Ref sent Tim Cahill off for pulling out of a tackle Well, whatever your coach thinks; he will have to apply himself as to how to regain even some semblance of belief after the team he put out containing barely one player of international standard let alone world class, got so comprehensively taken apart. An ageing, paceless and lumbering defence, a poor goalkeeper and a striker who has got himself excluded for the rest of the group. Thrashing around and "being physical" went out with the ark as far as World Cup Finals are concerned. Who is your coach anyway?
