also looking at that table southend finish 17th ,and were promoted the following season. last season we finished 17th,omens any one. b,t,w,according to a few on the southend forum,we are going to get slaughtered ,score predictions of 5.0 4.0 and 4.1 to the shrimpers...best not bother going hey  |

In our locality, three away games in a week is pretty tough and I doubt any other team in our division will travel as many miles within seven days this season.
As always, the defence will stand firm and although Southend are definitely improving after a difficult summer a few shrimpers may be disappointed with the result if the predictions above are anything to go by. ;D
Despite a great start on the right wing, I am warming to Zebs up front as his pace and movement allied with Benyon is a handful for the typical league 2 defence and allows the reliable Carlisle into the team.
Fingers crossed for another hard fought win and potentially could go four points clear at the top. Worse case scenario is second, a point behind the leader.

we are now there to be shot at,as they say,despite this,PB wont change things much,and why should he?we are excellent on the break,hopefully things wont be any different today.

I hope we can continue the good work today with another 3 points. From taking a glance at the Shrimpers forum most of them feel their forwards are as deadly as a blunt carrott, lets hope that is the case today, another solid defensive performance from us and couple of goals will do nicely. Now im not bleeting or moaning but im sure I will get slagged off, and yes I do realise we have won 4 in 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If we are going to change into a 5 in midfield after going a goal or 2 up away from home, I would like to see someone else given a go as the lone ranger up front rather than Benyon. Not that I dont want Benyon on the pitch but to me he is the most unsuitable forward we have to fit that particular bill. Surely Gritton or Zeb tick every box for the roll with maybe Elliott just behind and joining from midfield or wide when we are on the break. Surely that roll would suit Elliott more so he can show his industrious running and chasing down. The ball isn't sticking or being held up well enough in my view, not that thats Benyons fault its just not the strongest part of his game, we give away possesion to easily then face attack after attack from the oposition and envite the pressure. Yes we have got away with it so far, but for how long? Well only my opinion, a winning side is not beyond tinkering and slight tactical changes, and its an obvious one for me. gritton has the pedigree to do the lone soldier up front tactic if required,that was my only issue with the port vale game,2-0 we should of shut up shop,but its worked so far,so maybe PB will not change unless something goes wrong,and at present it hasnt

I seriously think we can get something from this game. We are certainly more than capable of winning, however I would be happy to take a point.
One thing that does worry me very slightly me is the unusual (for us anyway) amount of focus on us from the media. A slot on last nights football league show. A feature on tonights football league show. I'm not saying I'm not enjoying the spotlight on us but 'Pride before a fall' ?? I sincerely hope not.

It would be nice to see o'kane play for a decent amount of the match instead of the last 5 min, he seems to have a hunger for the goal. I think we could get a result today at the worst a draw, but here's hoping that Mr Buckle doesnt get manager of the month and the curse that goes with it.
I would like to see the team changed slightly so that the oppsing managers dont get to good an idea of how we play and start to counter it.

Agree with that monkey!!! He is bound to get the dreaded manager award though.
Good little write up on our lot in the Goals pull out of the Sun today. Two things on that page, the £1 million dream team and then a pic of our boys celebrating along with the write up, slightly ironic when our team cost £0!!
Apparently we were the 8th biggest spenders on agent fees, a massive £5,750 quid!

Glad Corr is out, although I'd be confident that his physical approach would be more than matched by Guy Branston and Mark Ellis.
It might be a surprise to see Sturrock back in the league again, but that performance he gave against Kettering (who featured Guy Branston that day) when we really seemed to click in the promotion season was sublime. He had a couple of yards in his head on the opposition - it was a real shame that he seemed to be carrying an injury (exacerbated away at Histon in the P/O) as I thought that he might have carried-on the momentum into the league.
