After our amazing win against Bournemouth its back to league action and you have to wonder if any team is ever going to beat us this season after the way we had started this one.
With the record for the longest time without conceding a goal ended we go into the game with a new record we made last Saturday by winning our first four opening games and you can bet our boys are going to try and make that five and who would bet against them doing just that.
Southend has not made such a good start to their season and have only won one game drawn one and lost two, but we will still need to be at our very best if we are to come away with all three points.
Bucks has showed he is not afraid too change a wining team or the formation they play and I wonder if he will start this game with the same players and formation he started against Port Vale.
How great it is going into each game at the moment believing we are going to win it and I’m sure the players will feel very confident that come 5pm on Saturday they will still be top of the table and looking forward to the next game.

It's been 7 years, 3 months, and 23 days since that magical day at Roots Hall. The day that I still rank as probably the best day of my life. It ended my first full season as a Gulls' fan, and I think it was probably what hooked me. I loved every minute of that season, and the culmination of it all finishing at Southend comes to the front of my mind every time I hear that place mentioned.
Since that day, we have had our share of ups and downs, as have Southend. We went up, down, down again, before being back where we began here. Southend, on the other hand, went up, up again, down and down again. Both teams have almost been destroyed, one way or another. One man almost single-handedly destroyed us, while Southend could have folded this summer, but beat off the challenge and survived. Now they are operating as a club again, having been transfer embargoed all summer, waiting for the outcome of the court case, determining if the club would fold or not. Since then, they have brought in almost an entire new squad.
They started the new season with a draw at home to Stockport, in manager Paul Sturrock's first competitive game. They followed it up with a great 3-2 win against Bristol City, after extra time. However, back to the League, they lost their next two games, away at Aldershot, and home to Port Vale. They also got knocked out of the Carling Cup in Round 2, 2-1 away to Wolves after extra time. Their latest league game was a 2-0 victory at Bradford, which is a great result, in my opinion. Tonight they have also progressed in the Johnstones Paint Trophy thanks to a shootout victory over Gillingham.
I think they shouldn't be taken lightly, but I still think that we should come out with the 3 points. When I look at their squad, I don't really see any major threats - maybe Barry Corr, but he doesn't really have a spectacular goalscoring record in this league.
I hope for us that we don't feel too tired after tonights great result, and we didn't pick up any knocks or injuries, as, as Dave says, we'll need to be at our best to come away with our 5th successive victory in the League.
Looking at the fixtures, September looks an easier month than August, but football can spring surprises at any time, so we can't be complacent against anyone. Complacency is our biggest fear, and I hope it's something that PB will extinguish before it gets too much.
I think we'll win this one. I think it'll be the same score as the great day 7 years ago. Southend 1-2 Torquay.
Come on you yellows!

It would be great to keep our winning run going, but personally I would be happy enough with a point on Saturday.
Sturrock is putting together a decent squad - although they seem to be lacking a bit of quality up front - so I reckon we could just see another 0-0.
Anyway, with Shrewsbury (2nd) at home to Rotherham (3rd) on Saturday we are guaranteed to be 2nd at the very worst come Saturday evening and a draw (should the other game end in stalemate) could well be enough to keep us top.
On paper at least the fixtures in September look a little easier than those in August - but in reality we know that may not necessarily prove to be the case - it would be really great though if we could still be top of the table by the end of next month.

I presuume the Golden Lion, round the corner from the ground, will be the rendezvous of choice on Saturday. See you al there. Read the other thread regarding tickets AA - Golden Lion has ceased to exist - it is an ex-pub. Railway Tavern near Prittlewell Station seems to be the call, although there are no trains to Prittlewell direct from Liverpool Street this weekend as well.

I'll be staying in a hotel near the seafront this weekend. My first revisit since that glorious day when we achieved promotion to L1.
Looking forward to meeting a few TFF members at the Railway Tavern it is then.

Never mind all this prediction stuff concentrate on the important issue !
Will this occasion be the debut for the Marmite strip?
For the record... I hope not as I don't want anything to change right now.

This will be my first game of the season, and 3rd visit to Roots Hall - So far it's a crushing defeat and promotion, so will probably be 0-0!
Be good to keep the winning start going though.
So, all things considered, 2-0. Zebroski and Benyon
