I can see why Lingy felt the need to watch Gillingham last night as only Whelpdale, Weston and Kuffour started both in this and our previous game together! Whether this is the reason that they are on a poor run at the moment is debatable but one point from six games is unacceptable for this club despite some tough fixtures in there. Although it could be a good time to play them, they were on a bad run last time we met and history could repeat itself as we had also just lost to a lowly Bradford side previously. Looking at the Gillingham side, it is nice to see that Rooney and Nouble won't be featuring although the attack is all ex Torquay with Tomlin and Kuffour both doing well here and the defence will have to be top drawer to frustrate them! Oliver Lee has been drafted in on loan to beef up their side but appears to be starting on the bench. Four of the substitutes from the October match, started on Tuesday including the keeper but not sure how significant this is as their strength in depth will be much greater than ours! Their last win was at home on 2nd Jan with a 1-0 win against Aldershot. The news today seems to be that Lathope is targeting to be fit for the Crawley match and this away trip comes too soon for him so I would imagine that McPhee will continue as his deputy unless Lingy dips into the loan market before this match but suspect it will be after. The only other issue is Atieno or Howe up front and personally I would like to see Rene start, if only to try and regain his form and fitness pre Christmas as we need his goals! The previous Gillingham match thread is quite a good read as it was quite interesting to see the comments made as we hit the nadir of our fortunes at home with much comment about our leaking defence which to be fair, aprt from Lathrope was turned round by the reintroduction of Mark Ellis and Oastler finding his feet in this position. If we score two again, I now fancy us to win this one. We had also switched back to 4-4-2 from 4-3-3 previously which proves that the right system doesn't always work!

The Herald have rated Lathrope as 50/50 for this game so maybe recovering quicker than expected! One thing I forgot to mention is that another win would equal our consecutive away win record of five since that loss at Accrington! Presently we have won exactly half of our away fixtures which is very good going! With nine of these left, we will need to continue this ratio if we are going to challenge for the automatics. As always, I expect something to be riding on our last game and at least Hereford isn't relatively local.....

I don't think it matters whether Atieno or Howe plays, it's doubtfull if either will score! What might be interesting though is to play them together for a few games, think we might get a few goals that way. As for the match tomorrow, don't see us getting anything out of it sadly!

the games come thick and fast from now onwards, and a clearer view of the promotion battle will be attained at the end of march. We are well in there, and its now time for a fantastic run to begin again. Gillingham, another fairly big club for this division, continue to under acheive at present, but as like bradford remain dangerous opposition, despite their dreadful recent form. I cant suss how i think this game will go,if we get our sparkling attacking passing game going we should beat them, but if the bradford performance rears its ugly head again we could have problems. One thing for sure,it seems our confidence has not been damaged post bradford,so lingy will have the lads up for this one,its about this time of year that teams fighting promotion and relegation start getting the wobbles,so expect some mixed results from now on in. I would chuck howe up front for this one,he is due a goal and might be too much for their defence too handle

OK we have had our amazing run, achieved through determined and workmanlike displays rather than convincing attacking ones and In all honesty we rode our luck in many of those single goal victories. Its gone and I now expect a pretty mixed bag of results that will hopefully see us make the play offs. Every game will be difficult with so many involved in either trying to get into the play offs or avoiding the dreaded drop we just have to ensure that we pick ourselves up from last weeks poor showing and continue to pick up points. Gillingham slaughtered us in the reverse fixture earlier in the season in a match that any neutral would have thoroughly enjoyed but would never have forecast where each team would be in the league at this stage of proceedings. Not won a match for weeks and the manager under pressure at the Gills and our run abruptly ended by lowly Bradford, hard one to predict but surely a low scoring draw is favourite.

Howe on a yellow after less than 5 minutes..................Positive a quick return by Lathrope.

Goal machine Atieno.....about to come on. Morris off....disappointing again today. We really need some better reinforcements though......I understand that Lingy likes to take his time etc. - but this squad is so threadbare. Teams directly below us all winning and catching us up. NB I'm honestly trying to (somehow) coax a goal out of our Kenyan international.

Looking to the bench for some game changing inspiration I know ling doesn't want to rush into the loan market, but I hope he makes his mind up soon!!!

Time to be imaginative perhaps as we have nobody on the bench to change the game. Lack of depth will catch up with us. Ellis up front Mc'Donald on?

2-0, oastler off. Oh dear, oh dear. New faces needed this week...there isn't the strength in depth and the players who have been playing week in week out need some help!

Oastler off - pen - game over 0-2 - finally been rumbled, shame. Two struggling teams in a fortnight do the double over us. Just hope we don't set another record and have seven straight defeats. It was fun while it lasted but I really don't believe we have grasped the nettle in the transfer market and made the most of our good fortune, now it seems we will be forced into some signings. if we have genuine intention of mixing it in the play offs.
